Hot Routes?

Gucci Mane

I'm fully aware of what a hot read is ha i guess that wasnt clear. I'm just saying that the situation and play should have had philly with his head turned towards cam if the above picture happens. its not a hard concept and pretty fundamental. im going to assume that this was a rookies mistake. these kinds of things need to be clicking if we want to evolve offensively.

I would agree that you can't expect Philly to read defenses like a veteran or know hot reads like someone like Smitty. Plus it takes chemistry between quarterback and receiver and philly has been hurt and likely hasn't had time to develop this with Cam. I just got the sense you didn't think they were part of the scheme because Philly ignored it rather than he simply didn't know they were blitzing or that he should cut off his route. I am sure they went over that this week looking at film. Hopefully he does better in the future.

how epic would a flea flicker to start the game be? theyre going to look at all the footage and see that we usually line up in some type run-friendly formation and usually run it or run PA off of it. bring 11 personnel on the field and let philly get loose on a wheel off of a stalk block. I guarantee the safeties will be tucked in somewhat on the first play. IT WILL WORK.

Dan Henning, is that you?  Jk; actually i think it'd be a great idea. Even if it doesn't work, its going to make them second guess what they've been looking at on film.

yea i hope that we can find a good core and give them time to all develop chemistry like you said. i think they are doing that now its just that all these little injuries arent helping progress it further. i think we have a good chance saturday and im actually not too worried about shulas game plan.

Hot read options are part of the offense and as such are already part of Shula's scheme. In fact Eugene Robinson last Saturday was saying Shula's offense was actually pretty complex and that Cam had typically 4 options on every play. But hot reads are not options like that, they are automatics between receiver and QB when there is a blitz. They obviously could do more of this type of thing with a team that blitzes but they have been there all year and most times aren't installed for particular games. They are part of the base offensive scheme.

Comment of the year!

I went back and looked at the int from cam and the biggest concern to me is that we did/do not have hot routes installed in the offense. we have "option" routes, but those are a little different. If we do then philly just forgot to key back to cam when he realized the nickel blitzed. for those saying cam should signal to philly pre-snap. maybe so but then that would tip the nickel not to blitz. once the all 22 comes out tomorrow i can go back and look at the whole game to see if that was consistent.

One positive i see is his initial

Protection, or scheme for protection looks good despite the blitz

    • Shaq tore his achilles. I repeat, torn achilles. 10 year vet that didn't make it out of September two years running.  I think he deserves to stick around and prove it but I would not be counting on him being the player he was.
