The Best Mistake Gettleman Has Made

On July 27th Dave Gettleman waived-injured Tyler Gaffney. He wanted to bring in a running back that could help the team this year.

The Patriots quickly grabbed Gaffney off the waiver wire and Panthers fans were disappointed to lose a 6th round pick so quickly. In the end, Gettleman's move paid off. The Panthers were struggling. Two turnovers, losing late in the 3rd quarter. The fans morale hanging by it's last thread. One guy had the elusiveness to unhinge a formidable defense and bring the crowd back into the game.

The Panthers had an immediate need with Jonathan Stewart on the shelf with a hamstring and sixth-round pick Tyler Gaffney going on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Whittaker has some return ability, but has been looking for work since the Browns cut him in May.

As long as we can retain the Remmers, Norwell, Philly and Fozzy this would support the side that this offseason purge was a successul one.

I think the bounce back came much earlier than even Gettleman expected which in turn should be reflected on Rivera and Staff....despite how long they held onto the established vets that were brought in.

Getting Beason's dead money contract off the books as well as Deangelo, Hardy's numbers will allow us to go after guy or 2. Cam's extention is probably coming in 2016 after Newton takes his player option for 2015. Luke extention too... Wow money all gone... :(

Gettleman may have a cut I wish we did not make.

The guy I thought he was on track to make the roster bc he was playing real well in the preseason games was Tavarres King. He had the speed and hands minus one game where he had a costly deflection int and was hurt late in preseason If i recall correctly. I think he had a mediorcre mini camp and cost him a spot even though he came on during the games.

Bersin earned his spot as he was snagging everything but I would love to have King's speed and good route running out there.

I tought I just saw Marcus Lucas was also on the practice squad currently and I liked him alot as well. I see Lucas developing well securing a roster spot next season.

Stephen Hill has great attributes and should have the Demarius Thomas like ability to play but it does not seem to be happening. Hopefully a full offseason with Prohel will get him in check but i am not holding my breath.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
