Honest discussion on Cam's accuracy issues.

Granted, but Bell still scares me, and quite likely scares Cam too.

His footwork does still need work, regardless.

I agree.

Offseason focus should be LT and speed at WR.

You saw the issue last night with our receivers once Philly went down.

With Bersin, Olsen, Cotchery, and KB....,we have two white boys and one that runs like a white boy. We need speed to loosen the defense up.

Plenty of QBs are temperamental. Even the great ones, like Brady and Peyton, even Eli on those two Super Bowl runs would look all kinds of ways on the field. Whatever works for you. If Brady kept his emotions bottled up, he'd probably struggle more often. If Eli didn't shake his head and look surprised, he might not have two Super Bowl rings. When Cam is "having fun" he's very good. What he needs to do is conquer his emotions so that he is always "having fun," no matter the circumstances. He'll get over mistakes much faster when he accepts that everyone makes mistakes, they are part of the game, so if the game is fun, then mistakes are part of the fun, and overcoming them is even more fun.

If Cam Newton was a soulless robot, the same list of suspects would complain about that too.

Brady never looks defeated. There were times yesterday when Cam did.  Calm meaning he never gets too high when things are going well or too low when things are not.  Brady yells at teammates when they are ahead by 20. He is consistent. About your last comment:  Playoff wins has no bearing on a pattern of behavior that seems consistent in QBs able to get to the playoffs.  I am analyzing the traits of a leader and used a group who led their teams to the playoffs.  You want to take this into an area that has nothing to do with it because these QBs play each other in the playoffs.  Some have to lose and it is a team game.  So use some sound logic. I could say, "Don't try to compare a 7-8-1 qb to 10-win QBs" It makes no difference.  If you think Cam's facial expressions were positive and characteristic of a leader in a playoff situation all game, then say so.  You did not watch the same game I watched.

Cam also had a lot of pressure coming his way with those blitzes. For the most part, the offense held up well. However, Cam was aware of the pressure from his blind side which is why I don't think he looked left and could have found a wide open Cotchery.

He could also step up in the pocket or roll when he sees the blitz coming. He does not always pick up those keys.

Defenses have figured out all they have to do is pinch him backwards because he won't step up

I am a big Newton fan, but in year 4, in a playoff game he absolutely cannot miss wide open receivers Can't do it

Between Cam and special teams, the game was almost lost despite a strong defensive effort.

The play calls from Shula at the end of the 3rd quarter were also mind boggling

With a team like the Cardinals defense, lateral will not work. Straight ahead and mis direction not freaking laterals and bubble screens.

I was always told if you do not have something nice to say...don't say anything at all.

I am not going to say anything about your moronic post.

Which is why I wish we would bring Chud back, if we still had Clausen then Shula would be fine, we need a OC more like Chud for a QB like Cam.

Chud sucked, lol. Shula may be too conservative most of the time, but Chud didn't believe in using the running backs until the end of the season (because they had a bad record by then). There are plenty of guys out there who would be better for Cam and the running backs than Chud.

As already stated, Cam's mechanics took a bit of a backseat with the pressure last night. Threw off his back foot a lot. He wasn't doing that early in the year when he was looking outstanding. Just something he has to notice in film this week and work on throughout the week to get under control. He has to step into throws. Whenever he does, he looks phenomenal (and it happened a few times last night). Consistency is more Cam's problem than true accuracy. He's accurate when he's playing how we all know he can.

I also pointed this out in another thread. Getting rid of Cam's weapons from last year wasn't so much the problem. We got at least equal talent in right now (I'd argue BETTER talent). But here is my thing with it and how it relates to Cam overthrowing guys.

Notice how Cam seldom misses at Olsen at all? He puts the ball right on him 99% of the time, really. Whether he be middle of the field standing still, running down the seam, running an out right, or a flag route, he hits Olsen when he throws it to him. Same thing with Smitty, generally. He would drop deep balls on a dime to Smitty. Did it several times for TDs. What about Lafell? Hit him a lot, but Lafell also dropped a lot.

What do you think causes this? Repetition. Confidence in that receiver. Look at Cam's weapons from his rookie year to now.

2011: Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Seyi Ajirotutu, Lafell, Pilares, Gettis.

2012: Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Lafell, Joe Adams, Gettis, Louis Murphy, Pilares

2013: Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, Lafell, Ginn, McNutt

2014: Greg Olsen, Kelvin Benjamin, Philly Brown, Ed Dickson, Cotchery, Bersin, Avant

So, what do we see? The names I mentioned (Olsen, Smith, Lafell) had 3 years, 4 for Olsen, with him. He knew their speed. He knew their window on any given route. He knew their capability and trusted it and learned from it each year. This year? He knows Olsen well, but he's still feeling out the others. He is able to get the ball consistently in KB's catch window because KB is freakishly large and can get his hands on it as long as you put it anywhere near him (though he's still working on the catching consistently part).

Give Cam time with these weapons. He's already appearing to have a good grasp on Philly. Still struggling with Dickson, since Dickson hasn't seen much time on the field running routes. He's also seeming to get a grip on Cotchery, even though Cotchery hung him out to dry yesterday. Keep Olsen, KB, Philly, Cotch, and add another reliable receiver with some speed, and next year you'll see Cam's numbers improve. I'd bet on that.

Stop...the OL has played very well the last 6-7 games.

This is a mechanics issue with Cam...and he will work on it.

No you stop... I could write a book on why Bell should not be a LT. Our interior has improved not tackle play.

Cam admitted right after the game that his footwork was terrible tonight.

He knows the mistakes he makes.

Yeah, some people act like Cam doesn't or didn't acknowledge it himself. As the above poster said, Cam can have excellent accuracy when he wants to. He can make almost any throw in the league, it's more about consistency with his footwork more than anything. He'll fix it up over the course of the week.
