Honest discussion on Cam's accuracy issues.

Meh. He was 18-32, and should have been 22-32. Threw for 2 TD's 1 Int's, and his legs kept drives alive for us throughout the game. I'd say he had a decent game, especially with it being wet out there and going up against ARZ defense. He missed a few open WR's, but throughout a game all QB's are going to miss a few. He has something's to work on this week in practice, and I'm sure he will.

This game isn't even close if Bersin doesn't have that PR screw up.

Unfortunately, your assessment-one that I find to be objective and based on observationl-is probably going to lead to some rather direct and insulting responses, heavily-laden with assumptive excuses and anger.

How is Cam different than he was in 2011? Same style of play (one that leads to early retirement and not Canton), same mechanical issues, same attitudinal issues. More maturity, especially when we are winning. The difference in Carolina is on the other side of the ball.

I think we will keep Cam, but we are going to have to surround him with play-making weapons. We need a QB coach who is going to fix those mechanical issues.

What bothers me most is the pouting he goes through when we are struggling. (Here is where people say, "He was hurt!!!). A QB needs to exude confidence and leadership. If he was your captain, would you follow him into battle when he is down?

Rarely do you have a great QB whose temperament is not similar to a poker player's. To me, Phillip Rivers' biggest downfall is his emotions. He yells at refs, teammates, and gets too animated. While he is considered to be elite, his teams have always underperformed at crunch time. Drew Brees is animated before the game, but during the game--stoic. Look at the playoff QBs--- Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford, even Andy Dalton-they are pretty calm, confident qbs.

When Cam is good--stepping into his throws, smiling, etc. he is an elite qb. When he starts throwing off his back foot, the pouts come out and, basically, the outcome of the game shifts to the defense to determine.

Lol what? Brady isn't calm. He's known to yell at players and coaches. Delhomme pouted and no one complained.

And pls don't use Dalton, stafford, Luck, romo as examples until they have more playoff wins than Cam.

It seems like he has regressed mechanically. His footwork has been hella sloppy, he isn't stepping into throws, he is not following through on a lot of them, and it almost seems like his internal clock is not working properly, IE: he is attempting to get the ball out without proper tech in order to not be hit, even in a clean pocket. It is certainly worrisome, but not something he can't overcome.

He left it all on the field yesterday, and that much was very clear.

I see a lot of GOOD mechanics here and stepping into throws: http://sports.yahoo.com/video/wild-card-carolina-panthers-quarterback-012636623.html

Like I said, the problem is "inconsistency."

Plenty of QBs are temperamental. Even the great ones, like Brady and Peyton, even Eli on those two Super Bowl runs would look all kinds of ways on the field. Whatever works for you. If Brady kept his emotions bottled up, he'd probably struggle more often. If Eli didn't shake his head and look surprised, he might not have two Super Bowl rings. When Cam is "having fun" he's very good. What he needs to do is conquer his emotions so that he is always "having fun," no matter the circumstances. He'll get over mistakes much faster when he accepts that everyone makes mistakes, they are part of the game, so if the game is fun, then mistakes are part of the fun, and overcoming them is even more fun.

Cam's deep ball is very alarming, rarely does he hit a WR in stride that goes for huge yds, all his passes are intermediate to targets standing waiting on the catch and rarely do his passes get a lot of yds after the catch is made, let's be honest, his long, sideline passes are very bad as well, I don't know if all this is intentional under Shula's system or what, but it's alarming

It was clear yesterday he was having issues gripping the ball because it was wet. He was constantly trying to get his hands dry with chalk and dry towels from the sidelines

I do think he was a tad nervous as well.

This was, after all, the biggest game of his life to date.
