Honest discussion on Cam's accuracy issues.

Other than the 3 misses to Dickson (which happen) I'm not sure how Cam had anything other than a solid, gritty performance.

- Brown dropped a touchdown pass

- Benjamin 3 drops

- Cotchery stops on route

- Dickson had one go through his hands

- 3 holding penalties on the OL that pushed them out of FG range

- Gano missing another FG (we need a new kicker)

Cam used his legs on a 3rd and long to pick up a 1st while exposing himself to contact. No one can question Cam's determination.

Cam made some great throws too, his one to Olsen he put between the numbers was a throw only a handful of QB's can make. His 3rd down dart to Benjamin while being hit was another big time throw he made.

Yes Cam missed Dickson on a wheel, Dickson out in the flat and Cotchery down the seam. Newsflash, he isn't perfect but no one is. Cam is a 4th year QB who for the first time is finally getting more control over the offense and it's led to 4 wins!

Cam's accuracy issues come from his footwork. His footwork issues come from two places... being an arm thrower. Arm throwers have found success using their strength to push the ball into places others cannot.

Cam at times seems to have made progression on his footwork... but when the pocket collapses or he starts to feel pressure, he throws the ball inaccurately...

It should be a point of emphasis at practice this week... but his major focus should be preparation for whoever they play. Joe Flacco was 18 - 29 yesterday and they managed to win the game. Nobody thinks Joe Flacco has accuracy issues.

Cam was 18-32 and we won the game. There were a couple of balls that sailed and an INT because Cotch didn't finish his route, but for those exceptions,  more balls that should have been caught.

I gave this a good deal of thought................and have come to the conclusion the mechanics and fundamentals of any skill set in sport never become automatic and must be worked on constantly.

Even the greatest have games like this.............

Why do the greatest golfers in the world have swing coaches to instruct and study their golf swing on a weekly basis?..............how many times do golfer swing a club a day?...............yet they still have to be consistently checked and rechecked?

Same with a QB...plus all the additional variables in a game situation that golfers don't have like D lineman after you!

So in recent days I've changed my opinion about the idea of fundamentals and professional athletes.........they are not automatic and must be constantly worked on.........

Now if Cam would display such a lack in fundamentals in this passing efforts game after game that could be an issue...........but if it is sporatic like most pros then is normal..........of course the playoffs put a premium on a QB being consistent at a high level for 4 to 5 games straight to get  SB................that is what makes it difficult.

I watched the late game and Big Ben was off last night...................he has two SB rings yet still needs to work on that along with the pressures of the D on him as well.........

I don't know if people remember, but on the opening drive if the game, first play, the camera zoomed in on newtons face. I don't think I have ever seen him look so nervous. I think he put a lot of pressure on himself because he knew if he blew this game it would haunt him. I think that really affected his play. However now with a win under his belt, I think you will see a much more calm and in control Newton next week.

Remember when Ben Roethlisberger was setting touchdown records at one point in the season, and people here were gushing over him and saying that Newton should play more like he does? He hasn't been playing so hot since then, and he threw 2 picks in a loss last night.

All quarterbacks experience highs and lows sometimes, even Peyton Manning struggled recently against the Bengals, throwing 4 picks.

Some Panthers fans here really don't watch much football, and it shows pretty clearly.

Cam needs no excuses. He did some things well and struggled at other times. Some of that was Arizona who everyone admits has a great defense. For his second playoff game he was fine and moved the ball consistently. The offense and defense worked together and were good enough to win. I don't understand the criticisms about him making mistakes as if he has to be perfect to win. He wasn't and we still won. Just one more huddle conclusion that has been proven wrong .

Cam was fine in a big game on national television. Perfect, no but then again who is?

Some people act like, it's easy to waltz into the playoff and throw clean darts all the time (especially as a young QB). It doesn't work like that. The playoff's for the most part are a messy affair.

Just check most of the Pittsburgh, Baltimore game yesterday. Neither QB looked great and were missing passes. I'm sure we'll see the same during the Cincy, Indianapolis game as well.

Personally: I saw Cam throw some great passes; make some not so great ones; while seeing a bunch of his receivers drop passes, and one not finish their route.

Besides those, if Bersin doesn't muff that punt, the Panthers probably win 35-3 (with three TD's) and this is probably not up for discussion.

Yes, I'm sure Cam was hyper. Usually when you're amped up you're going to sail passes. That happens to all QB's in that scenario, not just Cam (though they never explain for Cam that he's "amped up, and just needs to calm down", as they do with others during similar scenarios). They just say he's missing passes.

Now, that  he's got a playoff win, and will most likely be the underdog the duration of the playoffs, I'm sure he'll calm down a bit, and maybe play better (remember, they will be on the road, and Seattle has a good defense)

Remember, Arizona has a good defense as well folks. It's not exactly target practice out there. Just check Lindley's boffo stats his last regular lesson game against San Fran, compared to the Panthers game yesterday (even compensating for the Panther "D").
