Who would go the Super Bowl if we made it?

I don't know if I would drop 5-10k to go.

If it was played somewhere I could realistically drive to and had a friend nearby to stay at their place, I would do it.

Basically, it was on the east coast I would likely try to make it, but out west I wouldnt.

Living in NYC, last year I really, really thought we were going to make it to the Super Bowl. Would have been awesome only having to worry about the ticket and not lodging/travel.

That said, Super Bowl berths only come along so many times, so I'd try my best to get down to Glendale.

I've been to 2 Super Bowls and the entire reason for going needs to be justified in your mind and wallet.

If you want to go and enjoy the parties and atmosphere surrounding the event for a few days leading up and don't care so much about the game, it can be done on a relatively tight budget.

If you're going to spring for a couple tickets, airfare, hotel and arrive a day ahead and leave the day after, it'll cost you as much as a 5-star Caribbean vacation, if not more.

If you're a football fan and want to see the game, stay home and watch it on a nice HD flat screen. Halftime shows suck live unless you're right in front of the stage because they're made for TV, not the audience in attendance.

The last SB we attended was tied into a business trip for the wife, which began on Tuesday in San Antonio. It was only a few months removed from 9/11 so we booked air and hotels and got tickets to New Orleans (SB 36). The airline tickets were part of her business trip and we took the rest on ourselves. The Superdome was as much of a dump then as it is now, btw. And it was the New England Patriots eating the Rams the same way they would beat the Panthers a couple years later. The Rams beat the Pats in almost every statistical category and outplayed the Patriots across the board, but couldn't put a couple more scores on the board when they needed to.

Anyway, I digress... those 4 days in 2002 cost us about $3k, but the tickets were cheaper then, too. We paid $500 per ticket for face value $800 tickets. 9/11 killed the ticket market that year, everyone was afraid to fly, security, etc. Hotels and all the other costs were thru the roof- all the local businesses were trying to make as much as they could in what little window of opportunity they had.

Just moved to a new state, purchased a new car, and my girl is up in Washington DC for a job rotation so I'm flying or driving up there every other month. It would be tough for me to swing it this year. It would hurt me inside, though, if I wasn't able to go.
