Norman should be our Sherman

You realize Sherman went to Stanford and is extremely intelligent? Everything he says, for the most part, is calculated and precise. Meanwhile, Josh Norman says "speculize" TWICE. I love Norman, but he's not quite on Sherman's level on or off the field.

Actually... it is not entirely true that not speaking properly has anything to do with having a greater level of intelligence.

For a lot of people... they make this misjudgment.

A british homeless man may sound more "intelligent" than a black business owner in the US... merely on the way he sounds. Its a cultural falsehood.

Because someone has a better command of the English language does not make them smarter than another person.

Sometimes as Americans we look down upon those who speak Spanish because they don't speak English well. But they speak English better than we speak Spanish. A lot of Asians have trouble with the R sound... so they substitute it with a more familiar sound to their language, "W". "Egg Woll"

A lot of black people, use what is called "code-switching," a method of switching the way you speak to be better received by the larger white culture. Depending on how you grew up, who you grew up with, where you went to school, etc .... it has a lot to do with how successful you're able to do this.

A fine example of someone who does this is: Stephen A Smith. Though he obviously has an urban background, he speaks with a vocabulary that in my opinion is overcompensatory.

Some are better than others at this. Two guys who aren't that great at it are on our team... Cam Newton and Josh Thomas. Cam's speaking is not just urban, but its southern urban... And often times he gets caught "trying to hard." But when everything you do is being scrutinized.... its a tough situation. Josh Thomas is pretty bad as well... its possible that he may have had a speech impediment growing up... that was never properly corrected. But that doesn't make him less intelligent. Neither does it make Richard Sherman a smarter DB.

Sometimes I think we put way too much stock into how "smart" a guy is. They're football players... and even for quarterbacks... the amount of knowledge they have to apply to solve problems is capped off at the high school level.

I said all of that to say.... "Not Necessarily."

Yeah at uncheat in African American studies. Communication isn't the hardest degree but it is a legit one and at Stanford no less. Not saying he's a brain surgeon but he definitely knows how to market himself.

Saying he knows how to market himself is a bit different than saying "every comment is calculated and thought out".

I am earning my Masters degree at a well ranked school and I can assure you there are unintelligent/ average intelligence people in the program. (and these people don't have a football scholarship)

Some of the dumbest people I've ever met were insanely "book smart" but should be wearing a helmet and a life alert at all times.
