why? what's more important...seeing good football being played now or when it matters?

we saw the Panthers strengths and weaknesses last year during the preseason.......I think some observations made in the preseason are indication of what to expect. We had the best rushing attack in the NFL last year.....and we got a clue of that preseaon last year. To think this defense isn't going to be what holds this team back b/c what we are seeing now is ONLY preseason is a bit too optimistic imo.

Have you ever played football or even put on a helmet? Guys that half ass it on the football field will never amount to anything. Steve Smith doesn't care that its JUST PRESEASON, DeAngelo Williams doesn't care that its JUST PRESEASON and I guarentee you that the Ravens defense won't care that its JUST PRESEASON!!!

All I'm saying is that Preseson is a time to get better and improve, and that includes guys with a freakin roster spot! I wonder what excuse you will give if we go 0-3 before the bye because thats highly possible? The preseason means more than you think it does and I promise you that if they don't bring in a quality DT we will be having this conversation all year.

It pisses me off that guys like you use the words Vanilla and Just Preseason to hide the fact that we are playing bad right now. Is it the end of the world NO, can we still go to the playoffs, ABSOLUTELY, do we have issues that need to be corrected, YES! Thats all us thick headed guys are simply trying to say.

I know guys I'm sorry I just want this team to play to their potential. To me it just doesn't seem like they are executing as well as they should be. It is just preseason and I'll be happy when this one is over. Although he we were playing great right now and Peppers was getting sacks and Jake was throwing touchdowns left and right I bet that everyone would be pretty happy and no one would say those dreaded words, "its just preseason".

I'll try to calm it down and save my anger for the regular season. Agreed?

i have never said that there is nothing to worry about. there are huge problems with the run D, tackling from the secondary, and depth on the oline.

the rest of the team is going strong, though and aside from those 3 issues that there is still time to fix before the season starts, there is a lot to look forward to and very little to stress about.

it's just preseason. it's just practice. the things that really need to be worked on are being realized and are being taken care of.

I definitely agree with that and I apologize for losing it but I just want them to be great. I hate hearing people talk about the best teams in the NFC and the Panthers not even getting mentioned. One thing that sucks too is that the NFC North is loaded and they get to play the NFC West and AFC West so they have a cake schedule. However, all we have to do is have a better record than the Saints, Falcons, and Bucs, considering everyone in the NFC South plays a tough schedule that could definitely happen.

I think the running game will be as strong as ever and I think Jake will be fine. The secondary is going to get it together, i really don't agree with all the Godfrey bashing. The DE's are stacked so if we can just get a DT in here with some talent we will be fine.

Ok don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but here goes:

Every defense they are playing this preseason is pretty good, and 3/4 of them run a 3-4 D at least part time. This year they will be facing five 3-4 defenses which is a large amount for them. I wonder how much that is factoring in to the O they are running in preseason? Testing out how they can attack those looks? I.E.-IIRC they aren't throwing a whole lot of deep balls so far and seem to be focusing on shorter/intermediate passes.

Either what he is saying is true, or its gonna be a long disappointing season. I have noticed some guys holding up on hits, and a whole lot of arm tackling going on. I hope he is telling the truth......otherwise....the way they have been playing.........we are going to be abysmally bad.

for the record i'm not a fan of the preseason and which that it was shortened or even eliminated. the threat of injury to main players is too great and the wear and tear that they get from having to play a 20 game season but only 16 of them counting.

i know a lot of that is up to the coaches to decide on and why you see some players put on the injury report for questionable things.

they really don't start game planning until the 3rd preseason game and even then it is minimal compared to the rest of the season, again, when it matters. every year there are the same discussions going on about the lack of game planning and the same criticisms come out. if only the board hadn't blown up in november we could go back and look at some of those old arguments but it wouldn't matter. those who get overly upset over perceived poor showings from the panthers and who aren't able to focus on the few real problems that are surely going to be addressed are still going to show up.

Plus watching pre-season for me doesn't really have anything to do with the starters, I like watching the back ups like Matt Moore, Goodson, Martin, etc. Thats the fun of pre-season for me. Largely because I want Matt Moore and these guys to succeed for us.
