Devin Smith, WR Ohio St

hmmmm

CBS Sports' Rob Rang wrote that Ohio State senior WR Devin Smith is a "nine route monster with his striding speed to stretch the field, tracking extremely well with the ball skills to finish."
"However, it's the rest of the route tree that is the concern with his next level potential, lacking seasoning as an underneath receiver," Rang wrote. "Smith has sticky hands to make highlight reel grabs and has scored 12 touchdowns in 2014 on only 32 receptions - that's a touchdown every 2.7 catches, best in the NCAA. He is one of the best prospects for the 2015 NFL Draft class when it comes to vertical patterns, but his limitations elsewhere make it tough to feel confident with him as anything more than a No. 3 or 4 NFL receiver."

I don't like him at all. He won't give you anything that Philly Brown won't give you.

While watching the Senior Bowl, his biggest problem was so obvious, he won't beat press coverage because he isn't strong enough. I don't think that he can bulk a lot more without losing speed. His route running was bad.

He can go vertical when people play off, but not a talent worth a day 1 or 2 pick.

he is faster then Corey, as well as bigger. there are also things a coach can do to help him beat a press, like don't line him up on the LOS. he will learn how to beat press coverage, and he will get stronger. again like i suggested in the OP, he is a solid 2nd-3rd round prospect.

yeah, the senior bowl hasnt exactly helped his draft stock. looks like a 3rd rounder atm, but the combine could help, if he puts in the work til then.

He'll have a good combine because he can showcase his speed, and he needs to have a good game tonight at the Senior bowl, but the QB's are bad

I believe that he can be coached up, and learn some things, but hiding from LOS will be hard to do constantly. The team needs a 2th receiver and I view as a no 3 receiver like Ted Ginn. I don't believe he can beef up a lot without losing speed. His weigh-in at Senior Bowl was 190 pounds and he looks like worked out a lot.

he has the potential to be a #2 WR in my eyes. has a lot of Mike Wallace in his game. around the same size, speed, and both win doing the same thing. he has more reliable hands then mike, and can catch in traffic better. he can be taught how to get off a jam, plus with the new rules in the passing game, CBs will not be able to jam and hold him like they do in those senior bowl practices.

everything i heard was, he suffered because of QB play mostly. did hear he struggled when a safety was jamming him, but the very next rep, he went vs. a CB, and beat him for a contested TD catch.

I see where you're coming from and understand your arguments. But I don't think that he'll be no 2 WR. He's a good player and has speed. With technique, he can probably be better against jam. But people in the media like NFLN Jeremiah put in first round, I just don't see that on talent standpoint.  He's more 3th round pick. Mike Wallace was 3th round pick too.

What do you think of Dorsett? I see him potentially as a faster Antonio Brown.

i like Dorsett a lot. has the same speed that Smith has, but has experience running many different types of routes compared to Smith. he is smaller, but he gets vertical quickly with legit deep speed. Miami strength and conditioning coach said he ran a 4.18 or 4.21 something crazy last spring. has had some issues with health tho, and hands are inconsistent at times. had a huge week, and cannot wait to see him play tonight.
