The Bersin Factor ?

Bersin is a damn liability on the punt returns.  He bobbles it, ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, drops it occasionally.  He's shown he's a solid #4 receiver and backup, hell even a decent kick returner.  But he's struggling with punts and going up against (likely) Seattle next week, he's gotta get his poo together.

i want better for a punt returner, but in his defense...turner is an absolutely horrible punter who can't get the ball more than 20-30 yards. that doesn't give a PR guy much time to do anything. by the time the ball (which was wet and he was looking straight up into the mist and lights, which is probably two things he's never had to deal with as a punt returner) got in his hands, the cards guys were right there in his face.

just saying it was a pretty bad situation for anyone, esp. that inexperienced. should we have had someone with more experience back there? absolutely, but considering what he had to deal with i'm not going to hate on him.

The ball inadvertently touched him twice, though only one resulted in a turnover. Dude will be getting some major coaching this week.

What short memories we have. Bersin is only back there because philly was even worse. Just put Cotch back there to fair catch punts. Let fozzy handle kick offs

Exactly. This fanbase has short term memory loss. Philly muffed punt after punt.

At this point I would be ok with just sending 11 men and trying to get the block.

Coverage and protection is the problem, not Bersin.  Sure, I have been holding my breath too, but Arizona absolutely had our number on kick coverage.  We couldn't stop them and there were sometimes 2 or 3 AZ players around Bersin when he was fair catching.  1 AZ gunner always managed to get down there.  Our protections are just not working.  Similarly, the coverage is usually pretty shoddy on punt and kick returns.  Bersin made a mental error that haunted him all night.  Keep in mind that Ginn also struggled to pull the ball in securely.  We capitalized on that as well.

Bersin's role as the returner was magnified by the weather.  After the game, Jordan Gross, who was down on the field, said on the radio show that the conditions were a huge factor in his catching style as the game went on.  He pointed out that the air was misty all night and that no one on the team (in his experience) would take issue with the job he did (1st half mental errors aside).

We definitely got outcoached on special teams all night.  Bersin will be fine.  Our coverages and protections won't.  That's a problem going forward.

The first time it had already touched a cardinal so it was in essence a free play for BB. Second one, he just didnt get out of the way which he improved on later in the game when he got out of the area. That punter however was hot garbage and no one would do well returning on him because the punt went nowhere. I was in disbelief that they didnt have their kicker trot out and see if he could do better or something, that was just pitiful
