The Coaching Carousel has begun

Of course Rex is great. Just ask him

People that are impressed by all of Rex Ryan's big talk think he's a great coach (that list includes Woody Johnson). But the reality is he's more entertaining than effective.

Like his brother, he tends to make an early splash and then fade into mediocrity. But even when he's losing, he'll still talk and act like the biggest bully on the block.

So yeah, Rex will keep your team in the headlines, but he won't keep them in the playoffs.

I'm not sold on that.  Rex has had to deal with 3 GMs in his tenure... none of which were any good.  His teams were always competitive even without ANY talent at the skill positions.  He's certainly a blowhard but I've watched a lot of Jets games... and I think he's a pretty damn good coach.  I don't want him coaching Atlanta... I think with a real QB and a decent OC he could be very dangerous.

Ron was asked during his presser today if he wanted to be HC for Chicago if offered, he of course said no, kind of odd he was asked that. I know his ties to Chicago and all but still.

Pretty stupid question to ask.

If he would have said yes, he might as well have just headed straight to the unemployment line.

One of the reasons Rex got different GMs was that Woody Johnson never thought he was the problem.

When one factor changes while another stays the same and you keep getting the same result, guess where the fault tends to lie?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons and 49ers have requested permission to interview Patriots OC Josh McDaniels for their head-coaching vacancies.

McDaniels is a hot name for coaching vacancies now that the stink has worn off from his two seasons as the Broncos' head coach from 2009-2010 when he composed an 11-17 record. McDaniels will certainly be looking for the perfect fit since he can't afford another mess-up. The next head-coaching job he takes may be his last. In Atlanta, he'd have 2-3 dynamite building blocks in Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and potentially LT Jake Matthews. McDaniels also has a history with GM Thomas Dimitroff and assistant GM Scott Pioli fro

Interesting...

I understand what you're saying.  I guess we'll see.  I think Woody Johnson is a terrible owner and a large part of the problem that the Jets have... he's the true through-line connecting all the jets misery.  I dunno, all I can say is I've watched a lot of jets games... and I just don't want Ryan in the division.

Rex doesn't really scare me any more than his brother does.

Heck, there were people on here who went into panic mode when the Saints named Rob their DC.

McDaniels makes a lot of sense in ATL because Dimitroff and Pioli are Pats lackeys.

But, they brought in Banner to oversee the process, which is really weird.  I mean, you have a GM and an assistant GM with GM experience, and you bring an outside man in to oversee?

I don't fear McDaniels.  Yes, he'll probably be better with a real GM, and you could say he'll make Ryan better, but in the end I don't respect JM that much.

Personally, I hope they pickup Gase, because I just don't buy him as a head coach.  Now, he could be OK - guys who have O backgrounds, or really, just McCoy I guess, can thrive post-John Fox because he teaches you the game, but then you're less conservative than he is.  But I just don't know Gase well enough to suggest he can lead a full team.

Forgot about Pioli being there.

Belichick's coaching tree has Dutch Elm disease.

Agreed on Gase.  I think he's overhyped due to Peyton.

Guys like Arians who consistently turn nothing into something impress me far more than guys like McDaniels who lucked into a HOF QB and have been riding their coat tails ever since.  Give McDaniels a few years with no name QB's and he would be washing cars for a living.

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
