The Big Uglys / Hog Mollies

A few moments I noticed today...

 

If you go back and look closely at that first big reverse run by Philly Brown, you'll notice that he had a sizable blocker in front of him right up to the end.  Specifically, right tackle Mike Remmers.

 

Remmers didn't look quite so good on the touchdown play as he tripped going backwards, got off balance and got knocked down.  Yet even so, he got enough of his man to keep Newton upright long enough to get the pass off.

 

During most of the day, Newton had plenty of time to throw.  And obviously Jonathan Stewart and Fozzy Whittaker got some rom to run.  Very happy for that.

 

Ryan Kalil is still one of the best second level blockers in the league, but he's not alone on that front.  I've seen Trai Turner, among others, getting downfield blocks.

 

Of course, everyone's raving about Andrew Norwell.  And why not?  He looks like the genuine article.  The job he did pulling and lead blocking on Newton's TD was great.  He even gave the touchdown signal after the play, and for a moment it looked like he even considered smiling, but apparently he thought better of it

 

And yes, even Byron Bell had a few good moments.  He also had a few awful ones.  Kudos to him today for being part of a dominant effort, but he should be a backup next season.  Hopefully, he will be.

 

While we're talking about blocking though, kudos to the secondary guys who blocked for Tre Boston and to Kuechly and Davis blocking for Roman Harper.
