Should we resign Byron Bell?

The OT depth entering this draft is very deep.other teams have found decent starters beyond the 1st round as well, scouting department has to hit on the pick.

I totally agree with this.  However, I'm not sure I would want to risk everything on a draft pick.  So, unless he wants too much money, I think I would sign Bell and actively look for his eventual replacement through the draft.

Once the exclusive rights free agents are re-signed (99.9% chance that is a lock), Bell will be the only free agent out of our current 22 starters. We will have a nice little chunk of cap space and all 7 of our draft picks. I'm ok with not bringing him back because we will have options.

Well hopefully it's better than last draft because most of them were bad as rookies.(Still time to develop tho)

Lewan was good but he didn't have enough snaps to know for sure

JuWuan was started ok but fell way off.

Jake Mathews struggled for most of the season.

Guys like Henderson, Hurst and Moses were pretty bad.

ideally, you want several options to choose from. but allowing Bell, and Chandler to compete for the LT should never happen again, and should have never been an option last year. this class is  projected to be deep especially if some of the underclassmen declare.

rookies will still look like rookies, at times. best way to get better is through live, game reps. JuWuan was doing really well until he had to switch to the LT spot, where he never played a down at in college. even still, the games i watched,  he held his own. Matthews struggle, like the entire OL of the falcons. CBS has 6 OT's with 1st round grades.(does not mean poo, but still)

I think the biggest issue with Bell is that his problems appear mechanical/fixable.  He has all the upper body strength and punch of a great OT but lacks the footwork and movement.

Normally, footwork can be taught. But, for whatever reason, Bell's footwork and balance have yet to reach a level that would make him serviceable.  I say bring him back as competition for a backup role if he is willing to get paid like a backup.  If not, let some other team overpay for him.
