Either Fox/the OC are dumb, or Jarett is even dumber

I think Jarrett has done ok in the preseason, he's not take'n away Smitty or Mooses job... and does anyone forget his 10 catches last season? Yeah, I know it's small but, he wasn't used much cus we didn't have many sets to use him or need him to catch. Anyway, 9 of those 10 catches were for first downs?

We all know that the Panthers are a Run first team, and well, that means that blocking is needed for WR's too. I dunno who pays attention to that detail much, but maybe that's what they see in him, and that he can help out in a pinch like he did last season?

Who knows they are thinking. But, I'm sure with Robinson come'n back, and Moore being a nice speedy guy... (like Drew Carter was when he wasn't broken or not catching balls) Moore is catching the ball which could help to break the focus on Steve and the RB's if there is actaully another "speedy" deep threat on the field?

Meh... just my observations/thoughts.

Completey agree with you on this post. It's not so much that Jarrett has dissapointed me but that Moore has impressed me.

Without having read much of the thread other than the original post and premise, I think it's not misuse, but perhaps little use. He'll certainly get more opportunities this year as he has been handed the #3 spot, whereas in his first two years there was already a guy in front of him or a guy who outplayed him early.

I say it's little use, because you can't really misuse a guy like Jarrett. He's not a gamebreaker, he gets catches, first downs, and touchdowns. Possession receiver. He can step in the game and fill his role.

That being said, so far in the preseason, from what I've seen, Jarrett has played his part. I just don't think the QB he is playing with when he's out there is really looking for him. Even in the Giants game he was getting separation from the defenders, but Jake made a few bad throws in that game to him. Everytime I've seen him in replays, he's gotten separation and done what he was supposed to do (including a REALLY good block if I remember correctly).

I just think he ISN'T used rather than being MISUSED. I think he can contribute big time, it's a matter of giving him the opportunities, and he'll have them this year.

What I don't like is how little we have minimized the #3 WR. Why even dress a guy and just load up on DT's?

If the fans know the #3 is a token ball player, guess who else knows that? Other teams.

DJ doesn't have to be a home run threat but how bout enough looks to keep the opposing teams honest?

So you spend money and a high draft choice on a guy to just run routes?

Yeah... this is another problem with the passing game. Double on Smitty cause mostlikely no other receiver is going to get the ball with any kind of regularity cause Dhommie isnt really looking for anybody else. Throw in the fact that every team we play knows Jake isnt mobile and is going to stay in the pocket at all costs.... and hey, the next thing ya know old Jeds a millionarie...

we've seldom used a slot guy as a passing threat since Proehl.

...and that's a shame, considering how good that guy was on third down.

these days in the passing game, all a defense has to do is draw coverage to Smith and go one on one with Muhammad, if you've got a semi-competent no.2 corner you can keep Moose under 50 yards. The tight ends are no real threat, and there's no slot guy to keep the defense guessing.

so then what? try to incorporate the RBs into the passing game? Well you could, I mean, DeAngelo's a playmaker and if you can get him in space he'll definitely get yards, and Stewart's a pretty good pass catcher himself, but the two only combined for 30 receptions last year so we haven't really featured them.

Jarrett has done nothing because he would be a lousy number 1 or 2. With Smitty out both weeks and Moose out in week 2, Jarrett has played number 2 the first week and number 1 last week. He will be playing the slot against the safeties and linebackers or third corners during the year. He should look better against the competition he will face once the season starts. With that said Moore has looked much more impressive.

It's hard to catch anything when your QB only goes through 1-2 reads a pass play and you're usually not included....

Look off 89 to 87... go back to 89... if covered... throw to 89 anyways or go back to 87/dump off to a TE.

Not knocking on Delhomme, but when have we really used a #3 consistantly.

Its not really that, its just that Barnidge and Rosario are better receiving TE. King cant help that he's slow. But he can catch and can block. So we're a run first team and he's going to be a part of our offense. But the league has caught onto that and may be stacking the box this year because we havent went out and got a big name receiver to compliment Steve. So what do we do, we put Barnidge/Rosario in there who might fool some defenders and linebackers who can run down the field and catch

I liked what I saw on our 2nd drive

Its still shocking that King who has been a starter for two years now is basicly on the bubble. Where are all the critics that say Fox sticks with the Vet huh?

The way I see it is this. Jarrett has more things working agest him then with him...

He's not fast and he still looks unconfertible with running his routes.

He dose not use his body very well.

He dose not play ST so if he not caching balls he is not helping.

He has good hands. If he gets the ball he holds onto it.

He can take a shot. He got creamed last year and got up.

He has all the tools a Pos WR could ever want to have.

Thats what I have seen so far and I think he will be on our roster. Although Moore has looked like the better WR at this point and I think he plays ST also.

We have used a number 3 when we have had one. Last one to play well was Proehl and we used him alot. Since then we have really had no number 3. Until Moose came back we didn't have a good number 2 either. From what I have seen we will use a third receiver more this year since we finally have some prospects with Moore and Robinson as well as Jarrett. We will also use the TE more than we have in the past as well.

I just hope Barnidge pans out. Thats gonna be a real problem for teams that like to play cover 2 and contain Smith or Blitz the run. He could rack up some good yards if he can block as good as they want. For once we might be able to do to teams what they have been doing to us for years. Kill them with the TE.
