Prepping for Black Monday

It's gonna be real interesting for sure.

Nobody but John Fox has made it past four years here, and Fox had an infinitely better résumé at this point than Rivera does.

Of course, Fox also had Hurney. They were called 'a package deal'. And while Gentleman and Rivera seem to work well together, I wouldn't put them at that level.

Hurney hired both Fox and Rivera, but wasn't there a lot of influence on the Rivera hire by Richardson?

I think that Rivera is here next year, and at the end of 2015 we will have something like 82 million in cap room (which will get eaten into by Cam's contract, among others).  So at that point, there will be no "cap hell" excuse, all of the guys from the "old regime" will be on their way out, and the Panthers will have a foundation that's entering it's prime.  THAT'S when Gettleman will want to bring in his own guy, IMHO.

It's possible.

No matter who the Panthers decide to bring into any coaching position, as long as the team continues to draft BPA instead of need and try to fit them into a system, they will continue to wow fans with a winning season every 6-7 years.

Once they figure out how to design an offense that maximizes the players on the roster rather than develop an offensive strategy then try to force players to fit, they might be okay. This crap about, "We want to be a power run team..." while drafting players like Kenjon Barner, DeAngelo Williams and other non-power running players is stupid.

DG: "You draft fo need, then you gonna get burned". Expect nothing else than BPA. Don't forget that we are still in rebuilding mode and cap hell. DG had some nice draft picks and UFAs. He knows what he is doing IMO.

AS for Rivera, I hope he cleans out his office too, no matter of the outcome of tomorrows game. Time to get a coach with balls who is not ok with ties and who does not like to blame anyone else but himself for failure.

I know this isn't necessarily a reason to keep a Head Coach around, but their are no potential head coaches that intrigue me.

If I were to pick three it would be:

Todd Bowles: but he could be another conservative Rivera/Fox clone.

Gary Kubiak: retread, that will probably be more Shanahan than Belichek.

Pep Hamilton: smart but a little experienced and frankly reminds me too much of Chud.

One thing to note, re: offense.

The last time we hired an OC, Rivera's candidates included a WCO guy (Pat Shurmur).

That fact led me to question whether or not Rivera actually took the kind of system they would run into consideration.

He most definitely should, but it's possible he won't. A defensive guy like Rivera might just think 'hey, offense is offense', but that's not really true.

Given his track record, I'm worried about Rivera botching any new hires.

Rivera was also a lame coach that year, no experienced OC wanted to come in with no GM yet, a Hc on his last year of a deal and needs to win and keep his job

Rivera interviewed Shurmur in no small part because they coached together.  The other two guys were Coryell, and the guy that got it was, too.  With a major tip of the hat to continuity.  So I would hesitate to suggest Rivera doesn't care what system, when he suggested that was the case.

I know you're in favor of him being gone, but it sounds like you're attacking him for something that doesn't seem true, and it would be easier to attack him for the inverse, not being willing to step outside what he knows.  I still wouldn't agree with that, but those that feel that the entire issue is scheme and not talent or administration might latch better to that.
