On defense, I don't know what gonna happen this year. Our defense looks extremely vanilla. Knowing how much Fox like to play things close to the vest I would not be surprised to see either end of the extreme. Either a really good defense or a really bad defense. I think most weaknesses can be schemed around.

On offense, I am not as concerned as years past. As long as Smitty is going I think our offense is still quite potent. Defenses look real compact when he is not playing for us. Jake showed a little more rhythm the Miami game so I think he will round into shape around the start of the season(as usual).

I think its a toss up tbh. We either gonna be really good or really bad. No in between this year.

PRESEASON. The outcome of these games and what goes on during them don't really mean much of poo. Our starters come in and play a few plays and yall freak out based on how our 3rd strings play through 3 quarters of football. I could care less if we went 0-4 in the preseason. It doesn't mean anything.

we had weaknesses last season.....based on the way the 1st stringers are playing out of some very basic sets.....those weaknesses are still there......regardless if it is just preseason. Godfrey cost us some games last year....he is still a liability. There was no decent DL play the majority of last season outside of Pep......that lack of pass rush and pressure cost us some games.....there is still none.

Fox and Hurney have not addressed the problems from last season. The problems were simply put on Trgo defensivly as an easy way out. imo. The only step you could use as an argument they attempted to address the DL was Brown......but a 1st year rookie rarely make an immediate difference. The DT spot was a glaring problem last season. It was not addressed and on top of that we already lost the best DT out of a fairly average group coming back.

    • If he was a vet or had 3 years of full playing time in college, it would be different, I'd lean more on the side of caution.  But this is someone who now over the last 4 years, has really only played in games for one of them as he had 51 combined carries his first two years in college. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs reps and he needs them this year, he can't miss another year without meaningful game snaps. The knee is structurally sound at this point being a year out from injury and today's tech/rehab capabilities.  Sure his lack of game shape could lead to pulled muscles or something, but it's not going to put him at risk of a more serious injury to give him 10-15 carries right out of the gate. Also, we need see what he's got, to know if he's going to be able to handle a 3 down role next year before the offseason.  Because if he can, then we shouldn't be re-signing Hubbard as he's earned a decent contract from someone next year.   We can't give that out to a guy who will end up being a backup to someone on a rookie deal, it's a place we can save money to spend elsewhere for a few years, as we could get a much cheaper backup option in free agency or even draft someone else in like the 5th round to be his backup and really save money at the position.
    • Imagine if we have a defensive draft next year that's just as good...
