I have to admit that I was somewhat pessimistic about this season, although it has nothing to do with preseason performance. But if you are picking against us, then that actually gives me some confidence that we will be better than I thought we would.

Maybe you're right. I predicted that we would win 10 games last year and we won 12. Im predicting 7-9 so maybe they'll win 8 or 9. Not likely, because of our schedule and our crappy defense. But you never know....

Problem is we have absolutely no depth anywhere, except maybe RB.

Don't see how that is true. We have great depth at linebacker, DE, corner and safety. On the offense we have good depth at receiver, running back, quarterback. On special teams we have depth at field goal kicker and returner.

DT and the offensive line are suspect but otherwise we have plenty of guys who will compete. You could argue we don't have a lot of veteran experienced depth at several positions but many teams face the same reality in the current free agent system.

Im with you on LB, RB, DE and maybe CB. Other than that I totally disagree especially at WR and QB. Mccown is terrible and Moore has shown us nothing! We have Steve Smith at WR and thats pretty much it. Moose is 36 and will not have anything close to the season he had last year. After that we have a bunch of unknowns with Jarrett (who is a disapointment so far), Kenneth Moore, and Rhyne Robinson. Safety isnt really all that deep either. Dante Wesley is making the switch back to the position which he hasnt played in 10 years. I dont feel comfortable at all if Godfrey or Harris goes down.

I don't really care what the Panthers pre-season record is. My concern is how the Panther's defense really dropped the last 4-5 games last season, and they basically have the same guys coming back. The Panthers have not replaced Jenkins yet. They need a young, aggressive, DT to help solidy the interior of the d-line which is definitely the weak point of this team. Even with Kemo, I think the d-line (specifically the interior) was a big question mark coming from last season. The 'front 4' used to be the strength of this team and now it is a weakness. This has nothing to do with preseason...it is leftover from last season. Perhaps a 'new scheme' will help change this, but I have my doubts.

I don't no if you can add safety to that list. Right now, the S spot is an area of concern. Chris Harris is it.......and he can only reallly be counted on in run support.

    • He has allowed 1 sack this season. His issue is penalties more than anything else. He is averaging 1 penalty per game. In general, we should have zero complaints about this OL unit. Especially considering we have been a bottom 16 unit for about 8 years now.

    • If he was a vet or had 3 years of full playing time in college, it would be different, I'd lean more on the side of caution.  But this is someone who now over the last 4 years, has really only played in games for one of them as he had 51 combined carries his first two years in college. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs reps and he needs them this year, he can't miss another year without meaningful game snaps. The knee is structurally sound at this point being a year out from injury and today's tech/rehab capabilities.  Sure his lack of game shape could lead to pulled muscles or something, but it's not going to put him at risk of a more serious injury to give him 10-15 carries right out of the gate. Also, we need see what he's got, to know if he's going to be able to handle a 3 down role next year before the offseason.  Because if he can, then we shouldn't be re-signing Hubbard as he's earned a decent contract from someone next year.   We can't give that out to a guy who will end up being a backup to someone on a rookie deal, it's a place we can save money to spend elsewhere for a few years, as we could get a much cheaper backup option in free agency or even draft someone else in like the 5th round to be his backup and really save money at the position.
