OK, time to decrease expectations.

I'm not ready to start declaring that the sky is falling but will say that there does appear to be some dark clouds rolling in.

As I am sitting here tonight I really started questioning not Fox or Meeks or Davidson but Hurney. To me this doesn't appear to be a scheme issue but rather a personel issue. And as much as many on here would like to not admit it, a lot of it has to do with Peppers. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Peppers nor am I saying that I do not want him on this team. But lets face some facts here, that 17 million dollar tag may end up costing us more in the long run.

This team has way too much talent in certain areas for the Panthers not to be competetive. I even think that a winning season (9-7) or even a wild card could still happen. But the expectations of a Super Bowl really seem far out of reach at this point, at least for me.

I do think that the defense will improve and continue to improve as the season goes along. I also think that Williams and Smith are players that are going to make plays on the offensive side of the ball no matter what. So the sky isn't falling because we aren't to the point of the Lions or Browns or Rams. But if Hurney doesn't want the Panthers to end up becoming a team in that type of situation he needs to make some moves and move this team into a new set of expectations.

IMO I kinda feel the same way. That cap number is hurting us right now and may prevent us from signing a good DT to help out. Why we are looking so bad right now though is cause our team is getting bit by the injury bug very hard. The list now stand at Kemo,Beason,Smith,Moose,Stewart, and T.Davis. Thats alot of players to be just the Pre-season. Also like someone pointed out in one thread. We play both the Giants and the Fins this year so we are gonna keep our schemes very simple and our calls simple as well.

Pre -Season

A time allowed to get players in football shape for the season .

As stated several times above ,all the starters have not been on the field together

The Sky is falling at D T

Same story every pre -season ,differnt position

Minter retired heck we are screwed at Safety

Jenkins is gone there goes the season

Witherspoon got traded LB's will never be the same ,should have dumped Morgan instead .

Ricky Manning is gone ,he was a great player in those playoff games

Special teams are doomed Jarrod Cooper is gone or later Hankton is gone

LS Jason Kyle is gone were screwed

It happens every pre-season !

Pre-season is a time to get in football shape ,learn the playbooks, coaches watching alot of films ,and players getting back into the groove of another season .

The Sky is not falling .

All that counts is the regular season

PATIENCE Grashooper :yesnod:

Life will go on

Spoon didnt get traded he left via FA. I still think we should have cut Morgan and kept Spoon. Although Spoon has not done much in STL I think its obvious now why.

I warned all of you but no one would listen. The panthers are simply not ready to take on a brutal schedule like this. Its just a simple fact! The defense still hasnt changed one bit like I told you it wouldnt. Until Jerry Richardson has the balls to make a coaching change then this team will remain inconsistent as long they are playing under John Fox. He only does well against the cup cake teams. That is just a fact! He cannot handle a challenging schedule.

On how much more the team will game plan for the second preseason game compared to the first: None really. We don't really start game planning until (games) three and four. The issue with four is, typically, we don't play our starters very much. We'll do a little bit more as we go along. We've still got a lot of installation left, so we're still in that mode and we're on a short week.

We have yet to have al our starters in on defense. Look at last night. Davis disn't play at all and Beason didn't play that long. Godfrey didn't play either. Bottom line is when you play most of the night without your two best linebackers and your best safety, you are going to have a few busted plays which is what bit us in the butt. Miami also opened up their playbook and blitzed regularly on defense.

even with all that we were ahead in the third quarter. I don't understand all the doom and gloom. This is an opportunity to get work for some defensive members who might be called on to come up big this year.

I did see some attempts at stunts and blitzes last night which was encouraging. Problem is we need more practice obviously as we often took poor angles and didn't have as many free runs to the quarterback. But with the exception of Beason's injury, I came away feeling better about this game than the last.

Godfrey did play.

Last time I checked we haven't lost any games in the regular season, you know, when it counts.

I have to admit that I was somewhat pessimistic about this season, although it has nothing to do with preseason performance. But if you are picking against us, then that actually gives me some confidence that we will be better than I thought we would.
