Rivera: "Learned from first Atlanta game to stay aggressive"

He said he learned from being too conservative and kicking field goals against buffalo last year. How many times does he have to learn?

You are 2,000,000% correct! Let's just hope we go on a similar winning streak from here on out. All can be forgiven if we somehow happen to miraculously hoist the Lombardi. I can see the storylines now:

-Losing Panthers get hot at right time

-RiverBoat Ron 2.0

-How the Panthers turned it around

Can you F'ing imagine all the talking heads having to eat their own poo when/if the pooty ass NFC South Carolina Panthers ran the table and won it all? That would be the perfect way to poo all over the media and Nation for the years of utter and blatant disrespect!

A guy can dream right?

And nobody is happy that he at least recognizes mistakes and is willing to adapt to improve them?  Geez, how quickly we forget just how frustrating it is to have a coach that is so set in his ways that he refuses to change anything...no matter how often what he does doesn't work.  Yes, Rivera makes mistakes, and some of them have hurt the team.  But, there is no disputing that he self evaluates, and is open to changing his philosophy when he realizes it needs to be changed (even if his timing doesn't always jive with fan's timing).

And no, this is a different lesson from last year.  Last year it was about being willing to go for it on 4th down rather than play it safe and punt/kick a FG.  This year it's about staying aggressive when you have a lead late, even thought it is risky and can backfire.  Yes, they are similar and deal with aggression, but are very different situations and lessons.  IMO, Ron has both a conservative and aggressive side, but he's so afraid of making a mistake that he tends to lean towards being conservative until it's clear that approach isn't working.  And since it is virtually a guarantee at this point that he will be back next season, at least try to be thankful that he is learning these lessons...after all, it's better late than never.

I was doing family Xmas stuff and didn't get to see the game, but I saw that we started kneeling to run the clock down with like 2 minutes left on the 2 yard line instead of scoring. How does this fit in with the 'stay aggressive' philosophy?

It was the set of plays before that were questionable. We needed a first down so we run three straight plays. Stew bailed out the weak play calling with a great run.

Yawn!

That's why Ron was content to run the ball up the middle the last 1min+ on Sunday, giving the ball back to Cleveland. Yeah right. :phew:

And how many times, has Ron been burned hoping his defense can the opposition the end of a game, no matter how dire the circumstances or good, undistinguished the QB (EJ Manuel, Josh Freeman, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, etc.)? :startle:

Lucky for him, Stewart had other ideas (as he did the end of the TB game), making a spectacular run for a first down to seal the victory.

I have heard it all before.  I think he wants to believe but when it comes to nutcutting time he gets a bit scared.

He didn't do anything wrong in the first ATL game per se, it was the playcall on 3rd down that was atrocious.  It is okay being a bit conservative there, but that 3rd down playcall gave us no chance to get the first down and running out the clock and kicking an easier FG.

Come on, you know Rivera doesn't really care about scoring.

Not only that. But he ran the ball straight up the gut on third down, ready to give the ball back to Cleveland (as with TB the previous game, under similar circumstances) with 1+ min left.

Luckily, Stewart bailed him out (as with TB), making a spectacular run for the first down to seal the victory.

Nonetheless, as you said, Rivera didn't try to score after that.

That's Ron!

My exact same thoughts. Is Ron Rivera so fugging hard headed that he has to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over to realize the error of his ways?

Will we see a changed Rivera next year, someone  that takes aggressive action,or will we lose a few games because of his conservative  approach? Your guess is as good as mine.

Yup!

That's why we know Rons Full Of Shat and just running his mouth aimlessly!!

He ran the ball straight up the middle three times in a row, only to be bailed out by a spectacular Stewart run.

He was ready to give up the ball once again, relying on his defense to hold, instead of believing in his offense for a first down or TD to seal the win.
