Rivera: "Learned from first Atlanta game to stay aggressive"

I was doing family Xmas stuff and didn't get to see the game, but I saw that we started kneeling to run the clock down with like 2 minutes left on the 2 yard line instead of scoring. How does this fit in with the 'stay aggressive' philosophy?

Had we been up more than 4, I would agree...  but they had no timeouts and had we fumbled or thrown an INT that would have given them a chance... no sense in that.

"Cannot expect to win this football game by kicking field goals" Quotes provided per S.Reed and J.Person. So Rivera is saying all the right things today at the podium today. He really should have come to this conclusion after previous Atlanta games (actually we have heard this song before), but better late then never. Here's hoping that he doesn't get sphincter freeze when it comes down to the aggressive attitude. Hopefully he takes Shula aside and relates to him that the red zone play calling needs to produce. They can beat this team if they stick to their guns and do what they say. Pound the piss out of them with Stewart then slice them up with K.B, Cotch, and Olsen. Have faith in the offense to get a yard or two when needed and go for it. If your going to talk the talk , you better walk the walk.

That's funny because he cut Avant for saying the exact same thing.

Seriously? That's your example of them not staying aggressive? That's just fuging dumb. The Browns were out of time outs. The game was over. Kneel down is the only play in that situation. Why risk a turnover when all you have to do is kneel on the ball and win the game. Goddamn...

some people on this website are on a witch hunt. i dont blame them. Rivera hasnt won me over after losing faith in him. i think this winning streak is more due to the players realizing they still have something to play for this season. i would be willing to give Rivera one more season if the first thing he does whenever Carolina's season ends is to fire that fugger in the OC chair. do that, replace him with someone who knows how to use Cam Newton and it will go a long way in regaining my confidence in his coaching ability

Correct..........when you can manage the clock after moving the chains and then with just one series of downs to run the clock to the end there is not need to advance the ball any further as you mentioned risking a turnover and another important point.....why risk a possible injury to any of your key players in a meaningless effort at the end when you have the game won.

My goal as a coach is to win a game with as much of my team remaining intact as possible for the next game.

Some folks need to remember that the strong defeat the weak but the strong are defeated by the disciplined and

smart.....

And people want this guy back.... How could have not learned his lessons from the first three years... two years ago when we BLEW IT AGAINST ATLANTA IN ATL WHEN WE GOT NAKAMURAD HE SHOULD HAVE LEARNED.

W/e, if we make NFC championship, all is forgiven.

we actually threw a pass yesterday when we needed to win the game.

maybe he actually is learning this time

Thank the football gods Stewart ran for 30 on 3rd and 5.....otherwise Browns would have had a minute to attempt a game winning drive.
