What I saw against Miami...

Recommended Posts

The defense has improved greatly, but there is still alot to do before they are at top 10 quality. Good adaptibility against the experimental playcalling. Still some bad tackles going on. Pass coverage looked a lot better this week, especially against a pair of the most consistent quaterbacks in the NFL. DL still getting good pressure but not quite good enough IMO.

Offense looked much better this week. Jake played much more confidently, and Moore made much fewer mistakes. TE being used a lot. Williams is still a beast, just take a look at that highlight ready run he made against the Miami starters. A lot of people will say that the OL looked bad, but I would like to point out that Miami was stacking against the run all night. That's why the pass game looked great and why the run game looked sloppy. Panthers still managed to pull off some great runs despite that and that's what they will have to do all season. Goodson continues to impress against second stringers. Was quite impressed with Moore and Jarret against the starters.

Special teams were a suprising weak spot for this game. Outside of Munnerlyn's impressive punt return, Panthers were on the wrong side of bad field posistion all game. Lots of mistakes too (missed tackles, dropped returns, etc). Should see a lot of work in the next week.

All in all, looked better this week than last. Also, the playcalling is still as predictable and vanilla on both sides of the ball as you would expect in a preseason game against an opponent the team faces in the regular season.

Anything else?

from a miami fan perspective and carolina being my 2nd fav team.....ill say this

your run defense is bad. ronnie brown finished with a good game. you had multiple missed tackles, and couldnt get pressure on the quaterback (keep in mind, i am talking about our first stringers) also when ronnie brown scored out of the backfield, i believe whoever was covering ronnie got picked by our WR....but whoever missed that tackle should be cut immediatley haha.....

Offensively you looked good. Jake did ok, you couldnt run for poo though....except for williams breaking like 5 fuggin tackles and scoring, he was averaging about 2.1 yards per carry.

tough to see you guys get injuries with big name players....i dont wanna see that. hope beason and otah are ok.

all in all. the dolphins ran some wildcat plays (nothing but basic stuff we ran last season, nothing new) and it was a fun game to watch. i hate playing teams in preseason who we play in the reg. season, cause you dont open your playbook at all.

i thought chad henne had a good game, as did lex hillard. I played against jason cherry in highschool (in south florida) so it was cool seeing him get some PT

cant wait till november!!!!!!!

what did jarret do to impress??..the pressure to me was not that good...and pass coverage was not that good IMO the blitz pickup sucked.

the good to me was goodson and munnerlyn with KO..and the run D looked not as bad this week still gave up huge run lanes.and it looks like King has lost the starting job..IMO

Jarret had good blocks and ran good routes. Other than not catching the damn ball when it came his way, not too shabby.

Pressure was good (rewatch the game and watch how small the pocket gets for Miami).

They failed against the blitz picks only at the line. QB's reacting much better and getting rid of the ball to avoid sacks.

Pass coverage was incredibly improved this week. Much more that the plays were broken up rather than the recievers screwed up.

I suggest you take your own advice. Our pass rush didn't even begin to perform ok until the starters were long gone. Unfortunately, getting pressure on the 2nd team O-Line doesn't mean a thing.

Does anyone else think the fact that we have traveled to away games twice within the same week with the spartenburg heat sandwiched right in the middle might be a reason for the sluggish play we have seen the past few weeks? Yeah me neither.

I think the pass rush was almost non existent and that the defense didn't improve much if any. I really don't like Meeks play calling and I bet Fox takes over midway through the season. That long TD run was just a bad play call, we overloaded the strong side of the formation and they ran to the weak side. With no one there all the RB had to do was beat the safety and he did. I know we didn't game plan but I just don't like the playcalling on defense or offense for that matter. We had better be holding a lot back. I still hate the fact that will are making the defense "simple", I would rather be aggressive and force the offense to make mistakes rather than sitting back and taking it in the backside.

I thought Rosario and Anderson were outstanding and I don't know whats wrong with Thomas Davis but I'm not sure that we will really notice him being gone with Anderson playing the way he is. And Rosario is probably the most complete player we have had since Nick Goings. He blocks well, catches well, and plays great special teams, he is an asset.

I really think we need to add an offensive tackle to the wish list on Sept 5 (cut day). We need a backup tackle badly but Schwartz is the "Nick Hayden" of the offense. I think we should look at bringing in a veteren tackle in a Jeremy Bridges mold. The problem is how are we going to afford it?

Jake played better and it will be great to see Smitty and Moose in there at some point although I think Kenneth Moore is making a good case for being the slot receiver and sending Jarrett to the bench (remember Jarrett doesn't play special teams).

I thought Moore looked ok considering he was getting pounded on every play and McCown really didn't do anything to secure the number two job, looks like it is still open.

I thought Favorite played well again, he might be a great pickup as an Undrafted free agent, or it could be because we are so bad at that position...its a toss up.

Godfrey needs to get better at squaring up and tackling. He missed multiple tackles just by trying to get in front and slow the RBs down instead of getting low and making the tackle. Plays like that cost us 3 or 4 extra yards every time.

Secondly...Damione Lewis said it himself that there is nobody on the team that can start at the NT. I really don't want them to make a trade but you have to wonder if there is anyone that will be cut that is going to be a substantial upgrade over what we already have?

Hence why we couldn't run for crap...that and the fact that Steve and Moose didn't play at all. There was nothing to be afraid of on the perimeter so the only player the fins had to account for was Deangelo Williams.

I'm not worried about our offense. IMO we will have one of the best if not the best running attacks in the league. I am worried about the fact that we have now given up 140 yards/game in our first two.
