I don't think you are right here.

Shula is trying to play a form of ball control offense that doesn't really work out of the no-huddle, hurry-up kinda offense.    So playing it the entire game would run counter to the offensive philosophy.

But who cares about  ball control, when you're defense sucks, and you're not scoring during TOP, as the Panthers have been on both sides of the ball this year.

To me, when you're having a hard time scoring, you do whatever you can/what works to try to score.

I hate ball-control offense. It lets the defense substitute every play, get a breather, and recognize our formations. That kind of ball control offense is only effective when you have a dominating O-line and can pound the ball down someone's throat, Although we have gotten better at making holes, we still aren't dominate in the run game.

The fast paced offense doesn't let defenses to set their plays, they get tired quicker, and they have no time to react, which fits our personnel better at the time. We need to run more of it like we did against the Saints.

I wasn't trying to defend Shula as much as explain why he is doing what he is doing.

I think our offense is awful and I do think a problem with it is play calling.

You can't run no huddle all game long or else you end up like the Eagles.  Losing TOP and leaving your defense out to dry.

No huddle is great in spurts.  I'm FAR from a Shula fan but I like his philosophy of playing a ball control offense.  Its his playcalling that is the issue.
