We were fuged when we tied up 13 mil or whatever in a player that has seen the field once this year.

Not only did we lose Hardy, but we lost our on all those other players we couldn't keep/get because of Hardy. That is the true nightmare scenario.

None of the players we had were worth keeping for the price they wanted.

All those players on the defensive side were good because of Hardy. The true nightmare scenario would have been us signing them long term then realizing how mediocre they were

I seriously don't see the appeal in getting into the playoffs with a losing record to get blown out in the first round. I'd rather have a better player from the draft.

 

I mean I'm real sure the Bucs are glad they won a couple meaningless games in 2006 and missed out on Calvin Johnson, cause wins are the only thing that matters.

Speaking as a fan, I can't bring myself to hope for losses.

But in pure, objective terms, what you're saying is totally true.

Serious question: are you aware of the salary cap?

Likely a lot more than you are. And what I know if that contracts can we worked any number of ways to create cap space. We could have kept the players I noted simply by not tagging Hardy or better yet working out a long term deal which would have had few cap implications this year or next. But Gettleman got too cute and thought he could keep signing guys on the cheap and dumping guys who wanted big money. Hopefully this year taught him he might not try that anymore to that extent.

I guess that whether or not you want Ron back depends on how much you blame him for our present circumstances. Every pundit and talking head told us and everyone who would listen that we were going to be 4th in the division and maybe have 5 wins. And none of that was due to the coach but the lack of talent on this team. Sure we have blown out and in almost all of those cases one side of the ball or the other played awful including special teams. In a few we were awful all the way around.

If you think that it is Rivera's fault that we are 5-8-1 and he needs to be responsible for all aspects and al situations then you would want him gone. Or if you think replacing him will be easy and that his replacement will makes us as good or r better right away then you would want to replace everyone.

If you think that Rivera was handed a team with no line , a quarterback coming back from surgery, and a porous secondary and through injury ended up starting projects and rookies then you think he has done fairly well with the cards he was dealt. If you think His staff has helped improve the offense and defense so that we are competitive in the division despite starting the most rookies on any team then you might want him to stay. If you like a staff who can take guys who weren't in the NFL before they came here and many times insert them in the lineup the next week in a starting role due to injury or poor performance, then you might want to retain Rivera and whoever he chooses to keep.

Rivera still is conservative at times and a gambler others. He makes mistakes but he is also a good motivator. And the players like him because he praises in public and criticizes in private. For me it isn't so much Rivera I am worried about as much as how well we go after some free agents and keep our talent here instead of letting them leave for more money. How hard we try and upgrade some positions and keep our veteran core so we can keep some chemistry and consistency, instead of starting all over again with a different bunch and wondering why we have slow starts and fast finishes.

I don't see Ron going anywhere, playoffs or not... Pretty sure Shula is gone. Hopefully the "brass" will get someone who can take Cam to the next level.

I have a hard time finding a scenario where a PRO FOOTBALL FRONT OFFICE can keep a clown like Mike Shula employed in any position ever, regardless of whether or not the Panthers make the playoffs. This guy needs to go open a used car lot in BFE Alabama or Northern Florida, or where ever he enjoys cheap beer, and farm animals, and waste the rest of his good years listening to George Strait, and watching the View and the Price is Right in a van down by the river!

A potential pseudo playoff run (2 consecutive wins) in a dismal division, after repeated abject failure this season, and many Huddler's are ready to forgive and welcome Ron back for next year; especially if Shula's gone.

Exactly. Took the words right out of my mouth. I just don't understand. I guess JR has gotten a large portion of the fan base accepting of mediocrity and playoffs once every 4 years or so and middle of the pack NFL finishes being considered successful seasons in Charlotte. Smh. I have seen enough. We need a real coaching staff and I blame Rivera much more than shula. Rivera is the man in charge and shula was his hire. Rivera needs to go but I have this awful feeling that I will have to pull for a Rivera coached team in 2015

Nothing that DG did was about being cute, it was simply about not adding guaranteed money to the already bad salary cap.

 

We HAVE to extend Cam.  We have to pick up a FA WR, LT, and probably CB depending on the draft.

 

 

 

Letting Mitchell, Ginn, and Captain go isn't exactly like seeing Weddle, Megatron, and Haden leave.

I am honestly fine with Ron having one more year if Shula is not with him.  I would prefer a new coach but it would not be the end of the world to me.
