Worserer than the Ebola!

No thanks. Haven't had the flu for 20 years and I really don't like getting injected with poo I don't need. Just my nature. I haven't known anyone with the flu bad enough to go to the doctor but I have personally witnessed someone have a horrible reaction to the shot.

Coincidence...maybe but again in not letting anyone from Target inject me with anything lol.

If I get sick or die due to the flu, it's ok, I accept that, I'm perfectly ok with it.

This is exactly the kind of idiot logic that keeps the flu going around each year. Trust me when you finally do get the flu, you'll be getting the vaccine the next year and every year after.

And the z-pak has horrible side effects...I think I read no thanks to the shot bc of side effects then saying just get the zpak is hilarious.

Im the lone survivor in the household......for now....Loading up on vitamin C, Green Tea and washing my hands at every moment.

Sorry for the fam troubles. You may have said this earlier but was your wife required to get the vaccine?

I have not given anyone the flu in 20 years. So my logic is working jsut fine for me, no? There is more to the reason it spreads.

I hihly doubt if I do ever get the flu, the person who gave it to me will have this logic.

There is something to be said for the body fighting off ilnesses without the use of medications. I am not talking about the flu specifically but just in general. People running around getting on z-packs and atntibiiotics for everything is not healthy. I don't believe in the shot and I have no gotten the flu or given anyone the flu in 20 years.

You can point to other people and say my logic is idiocy but I can point to myself and say it's not. I can easily say not getting the shot is not even in the top 100 reasons why the flu spreads around so much and has very little to do with it.

this post screams you know nothing about disease ecology

Just a question for question shake, if flu shot is what prevents a disease or a virus and its so amazing why aren't these required? If its so bad that 30 something thousand people die from it each year why not make people have this?

It doesn't prevent a disease, it's a scientifically determined best guess at the 3 to 5 strains of influenza that will be most dominate in this year. Usually, they nail it and giving you the vaccine allows your body to make antibodies for the virus, so in the event you are infected you will be able to fight it off. There are years when we see highly virulent strains (h1n1) and years when the predicted strains (this year) aren't the same as the ones most prevalent.

That being said, the strains are very similar and getting the flu shot will help mitigate the symptoms if you do contract the virus.

They aren't required because can you imagine the uproar if they were? People on this board are having a conniption just because of some friendly advise to get one. If the government mandated everyone get one, people would lose their minds.

Ah I got it but that screams evolution to me. So I could be getting 3-5 strains every year for 40-50 years. What's to say the virus won't eventually evolve to be immune to what we are doing? I'm sure those viruses are very different from the early 1900s etc.

disease ecology/evolution I was abbreviating

and to answer your question there can be things such as super spreaders (i.e. Ebola) that outpace our current capability to combat it effectively

the flu could evolve into something really bad (h1n1) that we aren't initially prepared for, but by taking enough time with it - we should be able to come up with a vaccine for it eventually
