So if R.R is retained and keeps Shula....it is possible

Last year our offense sucked, it's completely predicated on slowing down the game and forcing us to be perfect for 13-14 play long drives to be successful, absolutely no chance of a real take to the house type play. Shula will be let go, I have no doubt about it. Hell he was canned in Tampa when they went to the nfc championship in 99, so even if we do get that far, he's still toast imo. He is coaching for his next job and he knows it. As far as Ron not saying negative things about him, he shouldn't have to at this point, he knows he's out, shula sucks as a coordinator, but he's probably not a bad guy where as chud is a known asshole.

So why would Cam be better off going somewhere else?  By all accounts he has far exceeded where folks thought he would be at this point in his career and has broken records for rushing TDs and improved every year with the exception of this one where a porous line and a very late start given his injuries really set him back early.

I just don't get this whole he should be allowed to leave crap.  Unless you are a Cam fan and not a Panther fan.

Point well taken.

Personally, I don't think Rivera is the problem.  He is what he is, a player motivator.  Ron is good at what he does.  He can relate to players and push them to get the best results out of them.  He is also very knowledgeable about defense.

Rivera is not great at calling plays or making personnel decisions. He must be paired with strong coordinators and a hands on GM.  Shula was kept around for continuity and saying that his track record is piss-poor is an understatement. He should have been let go last off-season, but our miracle run to the playoffs delayed that departure.

Shula can not be the offensive coordinator next year of this teams wants success.  His entire mindset is antiquated.  The NFL has been tailored to score more points.  Rules now favor the high-scoring, high-flying offenses. The ball-control / good fundamentals approach will not win in this league anymore.

I don't know - IMO, winning out and finishing strong only puts a worse taste in the mouth looking back at the games we squandered when we had the ability to win.  Poor coaching still will be the reason we don't make the playoffs, regardless of the players getting some wins late in the season.

All the more reason to can our piss poor staff.

If this were Hurney I'd say we are stuck but I'll be more than a little surprised if he doesn't fire Shula.

We just don't know his whole game plan.  We do know he's fixing the salary cap mess.  We do know he wants to field a team that competes for the playoffs every year.  We do know he has the balls to fire players that people love.

Gettlemen doesn't strike me as the type of guy who is guessing.  He knows exactly what he wants and he's moving the pieces around to make that happen.

What we don't know is the time table for his plan and if Shula is a part of it.  When he first started last year he may have thought it would take 2-3 years to turn the team around.  We're in year two.  Who's to say he's not OK with Shula's approach until he has the pieces he wants in place.  He may have figured to let Ron (a coach he didn't pick) have who he wants for now until he can fix the salary cap, get young players some experience and draft well for a few years to build the team.  Then he'll have the cap and players he wants and then he'll pick the coaching staff he wants.

I'm just throwing at a dart board here.  I just have faith that Gettlemen isn't blind and will make the right calls.

Going on the notion that Rivera is back for 2015. He has never shown any inclination to having a problem with Shula as his OC. He did have a problem with Chud's playcalling and did make some vague comments during his final season. He has never taken Shula to task that I know of.

I do believe that Rivera has the say over his staff and D.G may allow him that responsibilty. If RIvera plans on building up the defense and sticking with the conservative offense, then what.

There is no guarantee that the OC will be let go, regardless of what we want.

Cam should be allowed to move on and built a career if this happens. He will never succeed here under this regime if that's the case.

*this goes hand and hand with the contract discussion. Will they pay him if thats the plan they have and will he accept it.

Do you really have to waste our time with another thread about this?

You can just put that second toast paragraph in any other thread because that's really what you wanted to say isn't it.

He's not getting fired, but I hope there's to be enough pressure on him/his seat to be hot enough that he's forced to throw Shula under the bus to placate the front office. Basically tell him fire Shula or we'll look for another HC.

Of course if Ron knows his job is actually safe no matter what the FO says, then there's not much point in making that threat lol. If they were serious though, I'm sure RR would be willing to let Shula take the fall for this season.
