People wearing jerseys of a team that are not playing really grinds my gears.

Why? You probably have had the luxury of living close to your favorite team would be my guess. I live in northern Indiana and have never been to BOA. The 2 closest teams are the Bears and Colts. Carolina isn't always playing one of those teams but I still enjoy going to games and ill still rep my panthers. I may not wear a jersey but ill still be wearing my panthers gear I dont think theres a problem with this.
