Old man rant: people wearing headphones while driving

As one who loves music and even likes it loud someone help me out here.

Isn't wearing headphones ya know, like dangerous?

I use the aux outlet with my phone and play Pandora and jam but I can at least hear if an ambulance is coming.

I see more and more people at the light jamming up traffic or worse blocking a fire truck.

Or am I officially an old man now?

You may be an old man, but that's not the reason you find it annoying.

It's really dumb and should be illegal (may be already). I can understand one ear, but definitely not both.

FWIW I think people who drive/jog/walk down the street/do pretty much anything other than sit around while listening to headphones are kind of self-absorbed and dangerous.

Don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for enjoying good music or whatever you want to enjoy with the privacy of your own ears. But, as soon as you tune out a sense to the outside world, you are making yourself a hazard.

 

But but, deaf people.

They don't have a choice.

No argument on old. But at least I don't look or act old.

I suspect many of these practitioners of "driving while wearing headphones" will not be able to say as much in the coming years. Choose the form of your destructor music aficionados... perhaps a big red fire engine or tractor trailer blasting thru the intersection?

Plus these people look like a dorks wearing headphones. If AJ Green can't pull off the look, who can?

It's illegal, because you can't hear sirens.  There are exceptions for deaf people though.
