Greg Olsen is a baller

Walls and Olsen are both great. I agree with others that there are subtle differences in their styles though. If you sift out the differences in the type of QB and offense the two had/have, it seems like Olsen has a bit more of WR in him, while Walls had these huge hands that always seemed to make critical catches while being mauled in the RZ and end zone.

BTW, Walls is still in CLT. There's a pic around here on the forum of him at a practice talking with Olsen and Shockey.

Walls was a better blocker, but Olsen's skillset is a better fit for today's NFL. Great to watch them both in Carolina uniforms.

Walls had 44 TDs with the Panthers.  I love Olsen, but Walls is still the best TE in Panthers history.  If Olsen stays with the Panthers longer, perhaps he can get in that conversion.

 

And btw, I don't know of any fans here that viewed him as not reliable.  With him and Shockey, they were a pretty good duo and he played well even if his numbers were reduced.

Greg is a top TE in this league, and a very good teammate/person.

 

As for people "underestimating" him or however you want to put it, I don't know about that, this board went bonkers when we traded for him.

I wanted Olsen when we drafted Beason I think?  I'm not questioning my want for Olsen but that we drafted Beason that year.  Really liked him coming out of Miami.

As I remember we were ecstatic for Olsen.  There was a big Olsen over Beason coalition in the draft.    Especially since it was a just a 3rd rounder and not a 2nd like Armanti and a 1st for the human top Everett Brown.

I know Walls always gets talked about as best TE in franchise history but I never watched him play. For those who did, is Olsen better?

I think they are very similar, both great receivers/route runners, both solid blockers.  I think Walls was a slightly better receiver while Olsen is a slightly better blocker, IMO.
