Jordan vs Bryant

Dexterity

Recommended Posts

Prime Kobe has an edge on prime Jordan in pure offense. Mid range and long range shooting Kobe is cold blooded. That fall away base line jumper was unstoppable for a decade.

Sure Jordan is the greater player and Kobes game is built off of Jordans. But kobe is a monster and top5 alltime player.

Yes. Jordan having the big brand and the Nike powerhouse behind him, the commercials, the shoes, the ads, it all has helped Jordans legacy about as much as his play. He was the 1st to do the things he did with Nike and it immortalized him. In 20 years they are still going to be re-releasing retro Jordans and kids will be camping over night to buy them and saying jordan was jesus christ on a basketball court even though they've never seen jordan play. Nike marketed him flawlessly

Honestly if you just go by pure all around basketball talent, Roberston and James are probably the two greatest NBA players of all time. Now if you include clutch play and sheer desire to win, that puts Jordan in the #1 spot.

Kobe isn't even close to Jordan. The first three championships in LA Kobe wasn't even the best player on the team, that was Shaq. And when Kobe had decent teams he couldn't even get out of the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Suns.

Then he gets couple more championships with a stacked team including Pau Gasol who was all NBA before being a Laker and Lamar Odom who worked really well with the triangle.

He couldn't accomplish anything with Dwight Howard and Steve Nash either. Swept in the playoffs.

In MJ's entire career he never played with a PG as good as nash or a big man as good as Howard. And Scottie Pippen? Was basically a 10-12ppg a player after MJ retired. Great defender though.

Kobe is a primadonna. Various coaches had to be fired and tons of players traded just so he could get his 50 minutes and 40 shots a game. They're lucky Mj retired when he did or Kobe and Shaq wouldn't have won poo.

They also benefitted from Malone and stockton being over the hill at that point. Kobe and Shaq couldn't do poo when the NBA was elite there first several years in the league. Hornacek was balling him up for christ sakes.

Kobe Bryant.

Never was a guy to make his teammates better.  Instead he threw them under the bus and rode Shaq to three titles.  Remember when Kobe shot the Lakers out of the finals against the Pistons? Shaq was dominating but Kobe refused to pass him the ball and it cost the Lakers a title.  Without Shaq and Pau this guy's career is nothing.  During the 2012-13 season I remember a few times Kobe would play unselfishly and the team looked x10 better.  But he only did this in short stints which was a shame.  Replace Shaq with ANY other C in that period and how many rings do you think Kobe has? Comparing him to Jordan is ridiculous, it's absolutely asinine.  Comparing him to LeBron is almost as bad.  LeBron is so much better and it's not close, LeBron is literally better in every.single. statistical category except for free throw shooting.  Everyone talks about how you can't blame Kobe for the Lakers disastrous season this year, well LeBron took a team that wasn't much more talented to the finals.  Granted, the East was bad that year but still really impressive. Kobe's numbers in the finals are awful.  I'm not a hater, I'm just giving facts and references to back up my facts.  Kobe has to be one of the most overrated players ever, it's unreal to me what the media has tried to turn him into.  Comparing him to MJ?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?  It is borderline disrespect.

Also he should only have four titles.  This was the biggest disaster in recent sports history, imo.  I remember watching this game as a young child and after I said I would never root for the Lakers to win any game ever again under ANY circumstance.  I've held true to that remark and always want to see them lose.

I think Kobe will always be compared to MJ because their games are similiar. Kobe will be the first to acknowledge that MJ is the best. Kobe molded his game after MJ and that is no slight to Kobe. I believe Kobe is top 5 of all time. The sad thing about is every player with potential will always been compared to MJ. He is the standard now but there will never be another MJ. He changed the culture of basketball and became a global icon. With that being said, Kobe is a great player in his on merit.

Good lord, Kobe is not top 5 of all time.  In fuging volume stats maybe, because he's played forever... but in no way is he one of the 5 best players to step on the basketball court.

And lmao @ prime Kobe being more of an offensive threat than prime Jordan.  Ooookay.  Just because Kobe added one extra move to that post fadeaway (that Jordan had already perfected) doesn't mean he was more of an offensive threat.  It means he just looked more flashy - and shot a way lower %.  There's more to playing offense than fading away with over half the team on your ass.... like, you know, dishing a dime to a teammate for an easy play.

Prime Jordan was consistently averaging around 35 PPG a season... on over 50% shooting.  When the fug has Kobe ever even SHOT over 50%?  (Hint: Never)

Prime Jordan was a monster in pretty much every facet of the game.  Offense, defense, trash talk, mind games, clutch play, you name it.

Kobe fans hate that as good as Kobe supposedly is/was, he's never really been the undisputed best player in the league.  There was Jordan when he first entered, Shaq when they were winning titles, Duncan around the same time, and then came the player they hate more than anyone... LeBron, who has far and away been the best in the world since 2008.

Kobe definitely has his place in NBA lore and history, and it's not top 5 and being compared to the GOAT.  Hell, I'd have a hard time even putting him in top 10.  Top 15, sure.
