Hornets Want Lopez For Stephenson

I hope we don't work out a trade with Brooklyn. The trade market opens up today right? Maybe we wanted some "in talks" reports to lure some other teams to surface outside of Indiana and Brooklyn. Happens a lot.

I don't see a fit for us on that Brooklyn roster.

Joe Johnson provides veteran leadership, outside shooting, and is by all accounts a great locker room presence.

The only problem is his egregious contract, which has sadly, despite his effectiveness, made him an NBA punch line ever since he signed it.

We're a young team so wouldn't mind a proven vet at the 2 but as you mentioned the contract is pretty crazy for a guy that will soon be 34.  I don't want this team to force the win-it-now mindset given how young we are but at the same time we need to find a way to boost the talent we have that can also be sustained.

I happened to drive by Lance as he was leaving the arena in front of the epicenter. He was in his 2-tone Bentley with 2 chicks. Dudes got swag but can't hit a shot.

He doesn't have swag. He has money. The ugliest dude on the planet can pick up hot chicks all day if he's a millionaire. And seeing how Lance rolls around in a Bentley, Ferrari, or Rolls Royce- he isn't gonna be rich very long.

After some thought, there is only one trade with Brooklyn that interests me & it does not include Brooks Lopez. He's injury prone & just as bad a fit as Lance. Johnson is old & expensive, but he's a 2-year rental that is a huge, scoring SG. He fits perfectly beside Kemba & MKG.

Brooklyn receives-

Lance Stephenson

Gerald Henderson

Marvin Williams

2015 1st Rd Pick (top 3 protected)

Charlotte receives-

Joe Johnson

Mason Plumlee

Starters

Kemba Walker

Joe Johnson

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Cody Zeller

Al Jefferson

2nd unit

Brian Roberts

Gary Neal

PJ Hairston

Bismack Biyombo

Mason Plumlee

Reserves

Jannero Pargo

Jeffery Taylor

Noah Vonleh

Jason Maxiell

Starters fit much better. No longer have 2 non-shooting ball dominant Guards. Joe can shoot & stretch the floor. No more undersized PF beside Al. Cody is a legit 7 footer who can play outside the paint to give Al room, & he's a much better post defender & rebounder.

2nd unit is also improved. 3 sharp shooters on the perimeter. They are undersized, but you have 2 large athletic bigs inside. Plumlee can play alongside Al or Zeller if needed. Taylor can play spot minutes at SG/SF & you still have Vonleh hidden on the roster, who is a very promising prospect down the road. You give up a 1st Rd pick this year, but who cares? You're pushing to make the playoffs & that pick is gonna be 16+. You aren't gonna get a great player there, & we don't even need another rookie coming in. We are already loaded with young players.

They aren't interested in trading Plummee from what I hear

Plums ain't going nowhere.

Then neither are Johnson or Lopez. Teams aren't gonna take on those salaries for old broken players without getting something on top of it. Brooklyn should just sit tight until next year when those guys are expirings. They'll have more value.
