Cam's First Facebook Post Since the Accident

Just remember seeing this from BBR...

http://blackandbluereview.com/panthers-react-cam-newtons-accident/

WR Jerricho Cotchery, was in a serious car accident when he was 16:

“It completely changed the way I looked at life. Anytime you have a life-threatening situation, it puts a lot of things in perspective. So for me, it’s something that I think about constantly, day-by-day, appreciating the gift of life. And I think he’s pretty thankful right now.”

Looks to me like that's exactly what's happened here.

I'm glad he's ok, for the most part, as most everyone else is.

I thank my window blinds he survived this accident.

sorry for twisting everyone's titties, but i wasn't criticizing cam or dumping on his sentiment, only pointing out the inconsistency of a commonly-held superstition. since when is describing something as "silly" the same as being intolerant? come on. it's telling that no one's trying to defend the idea that god literally decides some people are worth saving from accidents and others aren't, but just generally getting red-faced at anyone's daring to mention it.

oh well, i should've assumed people would drop kick their brains and ragepost responses… that's on me. as stated originally, i'm happy cam's ok and it's cool that he's taking a shitty circumstance to better himself and be inspired to live a fuller life. i love that mofo.

the bolts just fell out of my desk chair from the vibrations of me shaking in anger over this post

i'm glad he's ok… it's been a scary couple of days. hopefully this brush with disaster gives him a new perspective and lights a fire under his ass.

that said i can't help but shake my head when people attribute their surviving car crashes to god's protection. more than 3,000 people die in car crashes every day in the u.s…. it seems arrogant to suggest jesus had his hands on your steering wheel but decided to take a smoke break when the other 3,000 careened off a cliff or whatever. oh well, superstitions gonna superstition.

I understand the intellectual thought process of an atheist. But you are putting your thoughts in Cams head. He wasn't saying it to be arrogant. That is your view of it. Christians have certain beliefs and you have to take them for what they are and not from a place of higher, cynical thought.

Something stuck with me about what Cam said. He was playing the accident through his mind. This is something I personally did when I had an accident. The fact that I was cleared of any wrongdoing didn't make it easier. You still wonder if maybe you could have done something. I just hope Cam is not rushed back if he isn't ready. Mentally or physically. He's a tough guy, we already know that. I don't need to see him play again this year to know that.

don't mistake my criticism of the belief as arrogant for a judgment upon the person believing it as arrogant. it is possible to practice a belief with no ill intent, yet still embody a negative tenet of that belief. a good parallel is racism: it is possible to engage in racist behavior (say, bestowing "articulate" as a compliment on black people) without being racist, because it's possible to inadvertently say something offensive without meaning to be offensive. in that same way, cam, by all accounts an incredibly humble man, could, with the humblest of intentions, embody a position that is fundamentally arrogant and still be free from arrogance. my comment was an indictment of irrational beliefs that fall apart when examined critically, not an indictment of cam himself.

I am totally with you here, except for the numbers you are mentioning. I read something about 35,000 car accident deaths per year in the US, which makes it a bit less than 100 a day. Still, every single one of them is one too many.

I can clearly see why this board is so deuchey. Mainly atheists that are judgemental and cocks how dare u mock someone for their beliefs. The man is thankful. Maybe u would be too. Or u prolly wouldn't bc you're a ungrateful prick.

But mainly thank god that no lives were ended and cam and also the other person can continue their lives. Something that so many others take for granted
