Cam's First Facebook Post Since the Accident

lol, 9 pages and Philly's post is still being discussed...

Sometimes I agree with Philly and sometimes I don't, but he put in words the exact same thing I've thought a million times when I see posts like this on Facebook nearly everyday...

I knew it was no slam on Cam... people are entitled to believe and have faith in whatever they want...

I agree however, that assuming you're the special one that god looked out for is, as Philly put it... silly.

I love Cam, I'm glad he didn't get hurt worse than he did, and I'm soooo glad as a Panthers fan that he's ok for selfish reasons too...  but I don't think god/allah/random deity saved him from further injury so he could entertain me on Sundays.

I wish Cam took English more seriously at Auburn.

Phillyb is a man of science and I respect that, but it's not reason to go out of your way to trample on someone's belief system. I believe in God with everything in me and I don't appreciate such comments. However, you're entitled to believe whatever you want. I'm not here to judge.

it's possible to believe in something irrational and fundamentally arrogant while being a rational, humble person. see: 84% of the earth's population.

you'll notice i've gone to lengths to explain that a criticism of the belief should not be taken as an indictment of the character of the person believing it; i'd like to hope the reactionaries would read instead of unleashing blind rage. maybe they would be less angry then.

Judging from just the numbers, the vast majority find your view irrational and fundamentally arrogant.

I wonder how many of these Christian folks would be reacting if Cam was praising Allah and Philly said the same thing that he did.

I imagine it would be something like, "DA should be our starter."

So glad that Cam came out of this the way that he did. He was very fortunate.

I wouldn't give a damn... but I bet you PhillyB wouldn't be criticizing him if he did praise Allah.

Also not entirely true... Science is now a multi-billion dollar industry. There are many different aspects of "so-called science." Science is over-politicized and its a foolish assumption to believe that religious people are opposed to science or at odds with science. For many religious people... science is used as a means to validate what they already believe what they claim to have already experienced. You don't have to NOT believe in God to accept scientific facts. To say that "Science WILL" do something is more a statement of faith than it is a statement of fact. And that's ok to believe that... Just recognize you believe it.

For many, science is used to further their already perceived worldview... believers and non-believers alike. Research can bring us a cure for cancer... but it can also create a disease for biological warfare. (Ask the FDA.) The point is... science can be used to bring about intended means... not just objective data.

We can say the same thing about History... the data can be skewed based upon whose telling the story... or based upon the story they want you to know.

It also happens in football.... The general public has a perception of Cam Newton as a QB and as a human being. If you got all of your information from ESPN, then you'll have one view of him. But there are those of us who have another view... based upon having a variety of sources to come to a conclusion... (other networks, watching games, The Huddle, past experience of his success in different situations.)

Diversify your bonds.

That’s a long rant that has really nothing to do with what I said. Let me break it down even simpler:

Science is continually progressing. FACT.

If you pick something that science has not ‘answered’ yet, and you extend the timeline long enough, eventually science will be able to answer it. FACT. That has nothing to do with faith it is simply stating the FACT that something that is continually progressing, if given a long enough time frame, will progress to a certain point. (again, a FACT)

thank you for saying that, i was sitting here literally shaking with anger when i read phillyb say that people aren't entitled to believe

There will always be skeptics  and nonbelievers but i tend to try overlooking them. Several years ago my auto was t-boned and totaled on  I-85 North,exit 10, by a tractor trailer truck, traveling 65 miles an hour. My auto  was carried over 1/2 mile before the truck stopped, the only thing that saved my 2 passengers and I was  the trucks bumper twisting  up on one side, keeping my auto attached to the massive grill of the tractor trailer. My auto was thrown to the side when the truck had slowed down and was close coming to a halt.

A Christian family from Georgia, traveling behind me ,saw/heard  the collision and smoke bellowing from the trucks brakes,as well as my auto tires that were on the pavement surface. They told me later  they were certain  were going to be killed,so they all started praying that our lives would be spared.

One of the passengers and i had minor injuries the other passenger was taken to Kings Mountain Hospital to be checked because their blood pressure was  extremely  high.

I was the last to get assisted from my auto and the first thing i did was fall on my knees and thank the Lord for sparing my life because i believed then,as i believe now, he had his hand in saving my life and the lives of my passengers.

Unbelievers are free to think how they please about things of this nature, but if one experiences a traumatic life changing event of this type,it is highly likely their skeptical viewpoint may be altered

As a guy sitting in the Hampton Inn at Duke awaiting treatment for prostate cancer I can easily tell you that what Cam said was spot on. Don't take a damn thing in life for granted.

My heart goes out to you and your family. You're in my thoughts man, I hope everything turns out okay.
