Let's talk about the implications of this wreck and Cam's impending contract

First and foremost The focus on Cam needs to be for him to get better.

When people have traumatic events in their life, it tends to change their perception of things. Personally I think Cam wants to be here. However I am fearful that he may look at this next contract as his last chance for fortune and fame.

Similarly, Gettleman has to be thinking to himself, will this (and the many other injuries) be an issue for his long term health and playing ability.

We will not get to see Cam at 100% again this season. He will go into this offseason with the biggest question marks about his health than ever before. I know technically he is under contract for one more year, but I think Gettlemans plan was to get the deal done this offseason.

So how does this affect things? Does it change things for getting a new contract?

This is a joke right? I am pretty sure after being killed all season because a crappy oline and then flipping his truck 4 times and is virtually unscathed, there is absolutely zero doubt about Cams endurance.  The guy is a freak and can withstand a lot.  There are not many athletes nonetheless quarterbacks that can take a beating like Cam has.
