Dead Money This year

Nah, I think his dead money this year was 5, but his cap his was 9 IIRC, I don't have the elite access to spotrac.

We saved 4 million this year, and 9-11 or so next year, I'm totally going by memory from a few months ago though.

according to overthecap.com if smith was on the roster in 14, 15, and 16 we'd be paying him $23 million combined

even if he was cut or retired after this season we would be on the hook for $13 million at the bare minimum between the two years.  it would likely be more depending on the finer details of what would have accelerated and when and how the prorated parts of the contract would have shaken out.

basically hurney fuged up in 2012 by extending him and blasting prorated money all over the last few years of his contract peter north style.  as much drama as there was surrounding his release it's probably about the cleanest break we could have had in that situation.

Thanks.

We lost 5 or so to save 13 or so, I'll take it.

Trying to figure it out. We have 4 or 5M right now and losing a bunch of dead money and Hardy. Probably some savings in letting D-Will go and maybe another big name. Then add in a potential Cam contract and a potential Luke contract. Also will the cap be raised?

You've got to think that DG is gonna try like hell to renegotiate a more cap-friendly deal with Big Money. Maybe with Stewart as well. They'll might say no but, damn, every angle has to be tried.

What year is it that we should actually be out of cap hell?  '16 or is it even later than that?

It will likely be later than that, but at least the money will be spent on better/more important players/positions.

As soon as we clear off Hurney's stupid ass contracts, we are going to have to extent Luke, Cam, Star, and KK, as well as try to get a pass rush, some secondary help, and LT long term.

As for what season will Hurney's mess be gone...it's after the 15 season when we can dump Stew.

I still think when u retire the dead money should drop. The team can't control somebody retiring.

That's the point, the cap and the way it's constructed is a real thing, it makes all teams play by the same roles, while expanding the ego's of the agents and players.

I think we'll have enough wiggle room to at least make one decent move in the FA for a starter this year.  I can tell DG is trying to keep growing the cap space but at the same time, looking at the dead money that's going away, factoring in the cap increase, and who we may/may not re-sign....(I've said this before) we could be looking at upwards of 28 million in cap space going into the thick of the offseason.

Now factoring in multi-years and 2016 implications, it may be wiser to wait another season on big spending (for Keek and Cam) but we could feasibly add like one 3-6 mil a year player in 2015 IMO.
