The question of Big Frank

top dawg

Recommended Posts

It's arguable that Frank Alexander's absence hurt us just as much as Hardy's this year, in light of the circumstances.  But, he will be back for the Browns game (should be provided he has let go of the tree).  His play could play a part in whether or not we can actually pull this playoff spot out of our asses.

Assuming that Hardy is history, I am thinking that Big Frank will probably be the one that takes his place opposite CJ for the next few years.  I used to be higher on Addison, and I just don't know that Ealy has shown the flashes that either CJ, Hardy or Alexander did in their rookie years.  Big Frank, yet again, has an opportunity to play a major role.  But, of course, that tree---and what he did to hinder the defense this year may be a little too unsavory for the FO to justify keeping him around.

Do you guys think that he'll play an appreciable part of the long term future, much less the last couple of games of the season?  Does he make himself part of the conversation, or ride the pine into release?  Can we afford not to give him an opportunity, especially in light of our personnel and cap situation?

Edit: CJ's second year, which for all practical purposes was the first appreciable amount of work

Ealy has looked way better than CJ, Hardy and Frank did their rookie years. CJ is likely gone soon. If Frank shows something in his last few games this year and his games next year I'd be happy to lock him up longterm for a reasonable figure. But I don't expect him to be our future at DE. If he happens to be, then great. I want us to sign Tuck (I'm a dumbass) JPP. Giants have had 7 sacks in 3 straight games, led by him. Our D would be dominant with Tuck (I'm a dumbass) JPP and if we draft Landon Collins. Damnnnnn.

OK, I will grant you that CJ didn't even really play his rookie year, but if you look at the stats, much less the eye test for Alexander's first year and CJ's second year, I really don't understand how you can say that Ealy has looked "way better".

I just don't see it (haven't seen it).

Tuck doesn't even play for the Giants anymore. He's on Oakland and has 3 sacks this year. You talking about JPP? He's out of our price range...

and beyond that, we're the only team that habitually lets all-pro DEs go.

JPP is gonna be a giant for a long time.

The fact that he hasn't already been cut speaks volumes to me.

I didn't even think of that.  You're probably right.  But G-man's acquisitions may play a part in how the story ultimately plays out.  In my mind, I don't care who we pick up, Alexander should be here unless he has another rendezvous with the tree.
