Gettleman's Scouting Department

It's amazing that some people on here still think Gettleman just signs players in a vacuum. They say he missed on signings like Harper, avant, insert name... As if on a Monday, after an offseason kegger, Ron and the boys roll in and find a letter from Dave sitting on the desk saying, "hey guiz, head on down to the locker room and meet the new FA's I brought in and signed over the weekend. Hope you can do something with 'em". Smh

No. His logical purpose was not getting all knee jerky and reaching in the draft or killing what little bit of cap relief we have coming for someone that wasn't a franchise LT

And he gambled on Greg Hardy, even though some say it was never his intention of keeping him long term, even though you had a very good, young LT out there in Jared Veldheer (as well as a few Band-Aids like Donald Penn), which I suggested at that time.

Leaving your franchise QB ass-up due to the protection of an already average to bad OT wasn't logical in my opinion. Furthermore, logic shouldn't have told G-man that we would get a top tackle, or even acceptable LT in the 2015 draft either---and we still might not---leaving us hoping that Michael Roos becomes available or praying that someone else drops in our lap.

Gimme a break.  Leaving Cam in that predicament has cost us dearly this season.  Hopefully we will get lucky and recover from it provided that G-man keeps making moves that have logic behind them so apologists can defend his screw-ups.

He has made some good moves to be sure, but he hasn't been perfect.

at least his fug ups have been cheap and easy to part with

speaking of gambles hurney would have handed greg hardy $30 million guaranteed without blinking

And what would have been wrong with $30 million guaranteed on say a 5 year deal? Hell, Gettleman guaranteed him $13 million for 1 year.

A DE of Hardy's quality, had he been signed last offseason, would have easily gotten $30 million. He'll probably get something close to that once he's back in the league, depending on how his appeal goes.

yeah you're preaching to the choir with that and i think anyone who believes he'll go play a one year "prove it" contract somewhere is delusional.

it's ultimately true that it might have been better to sign him long term.  that was intended to address people on this site who think that anything other than letting a first team all pro defensive end walk into FA was a massive gamble.
