KB should continue to get better at routes, but...those hands

top dawg

KB is a stud with some issues that need to be worked out.  He'll get there, but I very much hope we're in position to draft Cooper in the draft.  Having those two young WRs would set us up for a long time and KB being able to have some of the coverage attention taken off him would help a lot.  I dream of a 1a, 1b situation like the Falcons have.

And I didn't say that he can't be a WR1, I said that I don't believe that he is a WR1, especially if he keeps dropping balls at opportune times, and doesn't improve his consistency.

Yeah, but when you say that we need to go find a number one receiver and compare KB to Lafell, it sounds like you are saying that he can't be a number one.

KB's a rookie.

Nuff said.

Plus, if he played in an offense, where the OC/QB would go back to him after key mistakes, they wouldn't look so bad.

Most offenses, when players screw up, they make it up on another play, cause the offense is not trying to walk the ball up the field with any 10 pt lead or more (even in the 2nd Qtr), and/or concede when there's a 17 pt or more deficit; even in the 2nd Qtr. Lol

In other words: Yes KB makes some drops. Yes, he's a rookie. So hopefully he can get better at it. However, the Rivera Shula offense, historically/lately, has not helped matters.

Let's hope the Panthers continue with the offensive pressure, though I want Rivera gone regardless!

9TDs and 800+ yds so far with shitty hands? Lafell couldn't even catch with both hands....

And how many potential TD's did the refs take away from him, and that KB missed?? Plus, the crappy offense he played in most of the year? :startle:

Shoot, he should/could have 12 now, or even 15 if the OC was better along with the other things.

I stand by what I said. If KB doesn't stop dropping passes, he won't be what he can be---obviously what Panthers fans want him to be. He drops some big passes too.  Ultimately, the WR1 label is kind of beside the point.

Jerry Rice. Enough said.

And please show me another rookie receiver who has been their #1 receiving threat all season getting double and triple coverage and having to be handled by the #1 CB week in and week out?

When you get that one let me know.

#1 receiver receiving %; First 12 games; #1 receiver listed first.

Panthers: 51.8% Kelvin Benjamin and ?. Benjamin top target 9 weeks.

Bills: 52.0% Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. Watkins top target 6 weeks.

Bucs: 46.7% Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans. Evans top target 5 weeks.

Jaguars: 52.8% Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Marquise Lee. Robinson top target 5 weeks.

Dolphins: 55.1% Mike Wallace and Jarvis Landry. Landry top target 3 weeks.

Saints: 60.3% Marques Colston, Kenny Stills, and Brandin Cooks. Cooks top target 3 weeks.

Giants: 56.1% Victor Cruz, Reuben Randle, and Odell Beckham. Beckham top target 3 weeks.

Eagles: 59.7% Jeremy Maclin, Jordan Matthews, and Riley Cooper. Matthews top target 2 weeks.

Packers: 62.5% Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Davante Adams. Adams top target 2 weeks.

Which of these rookie receivers listed do you think would get the most attention from the secondary in their game planning? Kelvin Benjamin because he is the only threat at WR the team has for a given week. Every CB on the opposing team devotes a majority of their time preparing for Kelvin Benjamin.

If you want Benjamin's reception % to go up find him a couple more wide receiver options the secondary has to worry about in their game planning.

That's a good point about the fact that he is our only legit weapon at the position, but we really won't get clarity as to how he compares to his peers for a few more years as most of these guys actually transition into the main receiving threat on their respective teams.

I've already mentioned that he should get better with another threat (or two) on the field. That's about the whole point.  I just hope that he stops dropping big passes.  Not only can his drop percentage stand improving, but he needs to stop dropping passes when he drops them. Moreover, his completion percentage, overall efficiency, and TDs when his drop percentage improves.  He has left too many opportunities on the ground.

On an off note, so many people have said that Smitty would have hurt KB, but perhaps he would have helped KB's completion percentage.

The hands are an issue right now, and so is the larger game.  Looking at his mental miscues in blocking, routes, etc what I see is a guy with great tools who'se over thinking things, a lot.

Like any rookie, he's making errors and learning from them.  He also has a lot of pressure because he has to be the #1 guy.  He's got a great TE to play with, but teams are going to cover him harder, which is putting him out of his game.

In time, I think KB is going to be very good.  This is a great WR class, very much like the 96 draft class.  They are playing so very well for rookie WRs it's astounding.  All I ask is that he continues to work hard and get better.  I don't think he'll be a mega star stud type, but I'd be thrilled to have someone like Moose again.  A guy who can be Number 1 when needed, but is always a solid player.

It would be sweet if he became velcro handed ball machine, but I'm realistic in how I look at things.  Just keep getting better KB.

After training camp, where he had I think 1 drop the whole time, I asked if Zod what he thought about it, as it was a knock of his coming out of FSU.

I got flamed.

That said, he will most likely always have that issue, but it may get better once he knows an offense fully, and isn't having to "think" out there any longer.

If you don't think that Beckham has been the best WR in this draft, then you can put that pipe down. Look at what he has done with appreciably less games than most WRs, much less rookie WRs.

If Beckham were available when we drafted, Gettleman would have undoubtedly drafted him. Does that pain you to hear? I guess so by your immature response.

Just quoting to confirm this. As a matter of fact, the camera was recording Gettleman when he said the most developed WR in the draft was Beckham. I think he might've taken him over Watkins even if we were drafting high enough.

Anyway, Benjamin is having himself quite the rookie year by the sheer volume of his stats but he is really fuging inconsistent. WRs like him need to make it look like the ball is gravitating to their hands

Both the drops and the route running can be easily corrected. But uh, he's a rookie, he's not going to be perfectly polished right out the gate. One thing you want from a player of his caliber is mental toughness, and he has that, he'll keep putting in the work and getting better.

I agree with you on the route running, and the mental toughness, but not so sure about the hands as an "easy" fix, but I can certainly hope.

One other thing he has, it seems is physical toughness as well.

Personally, I LOVE what I have seen from the kid.  We needed touchdown scorers, and we got one.

Though it was preseason, he was pretty much catching everything coming his way. He is plenty capable of making those clutch catches. The extra attention he has received throughout the season from defenses as our #1 target has definitely played a role, he's still adjusting.

All things considered, we are pretty damn lucky to have him.

Beckham Jr looks he has a bright future as well, but having a WR like Victor Cruz helps just a tiny bit.
