KB should continue to get better at routes, but...those hands

top dawg

What in the literal fug. So... I was seeing all this crotch sniffing over Odell Beckham and all this hating on KB so... I took a gander at the nfl.com stats .... Funny..

22 Kelvin Benjamin CAR WR 59 848 14.4 65.2 51 9 13 2 39 66.1 1

23 Odell Beckham NYG WR 59 829 14.1 92.1 59 6 10 4 40 67.8 0

24 Sammy Watkins BUF WR 58 822 14.2 63.2 84 5 11 2 42 72.4 1

Someone is smoking some poo.

Beckham putting up those numbers after being injured for the first part of the season is ridiculous. If you actually watched a bit of football you would know that his praise is deserved. Route running is superb. Hands are top notch and his motor seems to always be running on red. KB has been good for us and deserves his props but obj is on another level. You might want to actually watch more games before you try to make an argument with those stats.

KB reminds me of Moose before he went to the Bears. He was a really good receiver who had occasional drops but was still one of our top 2 receivers. I see KB as mostly a #2 that could be a #1 from time to time. We still need a full time #1.

Yeah I don't see KB as a clear cut number 1 who we can always count on. KB should be used as an upper tier 2 receiver.

That's why I called him a 1-2 hybrid.  And I certainly don't think that there is anything wrong with that.  Some Huddlers get butthurt over any criticism whatsoever. If KB wants to remove the doubt, he just needs to catch more balls that are thrown his way.  Even still, I think that it's pretty simplistic thinking to believe that we don't need another play maker at WR to push Benjamin, and be pushed by him.

For a 30th 1st round pick, I think he is right where he is supposed to be drops included.

he wasn't the 30th pick... and KB is really weird. He makes crazy grabs but drops easy one. It balances out and Imo catching is something that can be improved with practice while spectacular catches really can't be.

In addition to this, it would be interesting to know how many rookies have had so many drops.

Jerry Rice. Enough said.

And please show me another rookie receiver who has been their #1 receiving threat all season getting double and triple coverage and having to be handled by the #1 CB week in and week out?

When you get that one let me know.

#1 receiver receiving %; First 12 games; #1 receiver listed first.

Panthers: 51.8% Kelvin Benjamin and ?. Benjamin top target 9 weeks.

Bills: 52.0% Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods. Watkins top target 6 weeks.

Bucs: 46.7% Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans. Evans top target 5 weeks.

Jaguars: 52.8% Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Marquise Lee. Robinson top target 5 weeks.

Dolphins: 55.1% Mike Wallace and Jarvis Landry. Landry top target 3 weeks.

Saints: 60.3% Marques Colston, Kenny Stills, and Brandin Cooks. Cooks top target 3 weeks.

Giants: 56.1% Victor Cruz, Reuben Randle, and Odell Beckham. Beckham top target 3 weeks.

Eagles: 59.7% Jeremy Maclin, Jordan Matthews, and Riley Cooper. Matthews top target 2 weeks.

Packers: 62.5% Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Davante Adams. Adams top target 2 weeks.

Which of these rookie receivers listed do you think would get the most attention from the secondary in their game planning? Kelvin Benjamin because he is the only threat at WR the team has for a given week. Every CB on the opposing team devotes a majority of their time preparing for Kelvin Benjamin.

If you want Benjamin's reception % to go up find him a couple more wide receiver options the secondary has to worry about in their game planning.

Kelvin Benjamin has some things that can't be taught or learned by a WR,that is his long arms and 6'5" frame, decent speed, all these positives  add up an ideal red zone target. We also need to keep in mind that Cam often throws a high pass that is a  laser at times, not always the easiest pass to catch.

He's going to end up with a rookie season of 70/1000/10, or thereabouts which qualifies him as an unmitigated success as an NFL rookie receiver. Will he continue to develop and become more? Who knows but we've definitely got our picks worth out of him thus far.

I think KB's floor is #2 receiver and his ceiling is a high level #1 receiver.  I still think he's going to be a solid #1 but he still needs another guy across from him, preferably a guy that's more of a burner.  Maybe that guy is Philly or maybe it's a guy we pick in the upcoming draft.
