He wasn't going to get fired anyway. Far more likely that Shula gets fired.

Rivera had us 12-4 and in the playoffs last year and everybody loved Riverboat Ron but then they have a down year and everybody turns on him.

Agree with OP, this game is a one off and Jerry Richardson doesn't give a flying fug. If I were in his position I wouldn't care either, there is no downside.

while beating the Taints makes me incredibly happy, I have this sinking feeling that beating a dead horse (taints) will somehow forgive the repeated butt-pounding we have received from any team we've played that was actually competent. 

 

I have no doubt that Rivera will save his job. Call him  Tuesday-trash-pickup Ron, because he knows how to coach when things are in Garbage time.

Shula is the real problem here.  I have been saying the same thing since September of last year.  

 

Gettleman has a right to redeem himself, and he will probably extend that same grace to Rivera, with J-Rich's blessing.

i don't care who it is coaching or playing on this team as long as we win.

 

if rivera being on the hot seat results in stuff like this, then keep him on the hot seat.

 

i said in the allpro section that he needs to be coaching for his job every week.

 

he's not at all safe this season. one win, regardless of how impressive it was, is not enough to erase the suck he is responsible for this year.

 

if he is kept around, it will likely be due to him winning out and heading into the playoffs and being more than one and done...which i won't hate.

 

if he is kept around, next year he should not feel comfortable. he needs to go in with the understanding that a losing record at any point in the season means he is gone.

 

screw job security. if he needs to be backed into a corner on the hotseat for him to coach this kind of game, keep him on it.

Only way Rivera should keep his job is if the Panthers make the playoffs and either win or put up a damn good fight.  Otherwise he should be gone.
