This is an exercise I did with my buddy who is a Bucs fan earlier in an attempt to decide how badly our respective QB's sucked. Basically we looked at every other starting QB in the league and decided whether or not we would rather have that starting QB rather than our own.

Miami Dolphins: Pennington/Henne vs. Jake -> Pennington/Henne

Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards vs. Jake -> Jake

New England Patriots: Tom Brady vs. Jake -> Brady

New York Jets: Mark Sanchez vs. Jake -> Jake

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco vs. Jake -> Flacco

Pittsburgh Steelers: Roethlisberger vs. Jake -> Roethlisberger

Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer vs. Jake -> Palmer

Cleveland Browns: Anderson/Quinn vs. Jake -> Anderson/Quinn

Tennessee Titans: Kerry Collins vs. Jake -> Collins

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub vs. Jake -> Schaub

Indianapolis Colts: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning

Jacksonville Jaguars: David Garrard vs. Jake -> Garrard

Oakland Raiders: Jamarcus Russell vs. Jake -> Jake

Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton vs. Jake -> Jake

San Diego Chargers: Philip Rivers vs. Jake -> Rivers

Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Cassell vs. Jake -> Cassell

New York Giants: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning

Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo vs. Jake -> Romo

Philadelphia Eagles: McNabb vs. Jake -> McNabb

Washington Redskins: Jason Campbell vs. Jake -> Jake

Detroit Lions: Matt Stafford vs. Jake -> Jake

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers vs. Jake -> Rodgers

Minnesota Vikings: Favre vs. Jake -> Favre Changed to Jake after debate

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler vs. Jake -> Cutler

New Orleans Saints: Brees vs. Jake -> Brees

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan vs. Jake -> Ryan

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leftwich/Freeman vs. Jake -> Jake

St. Louis Rams: Mark Bulger vs. Jake -> Bulger

San Fransisco 49ers: Hill/Smith vs. Jake -> Jake

Seattle Seahawks: Hasselbeck vs. Jake -> Hasselbeck

Arizona Cardinals: Warner vs. Jake -> Warner

So I have Jake as the 24th best QB in the league. Also I am automatically ranking ANY rookie QB behind Jake because I hate starting a rookie QB(not everyone is a Matt Ryan). What would your own personal ranking of Jake be?

He can't give any team a full season. He's basically a booster shot. He will give you eight weeks, and then your 2nd stringer will have to start. Rosenfels will be starting by week 9.

At least Delhomme can play a whole season, and a WINNING SEASON. Favre can't do that

epic fail on a bunch of those. Collins, pennington, gerrard, romo, even bulger and hasselbeck are questionable given the point in their careers

I'd take Collins because I believe he is a steadier QB than Jake.

Pennington has a noodle arm but is not as prone to turning the ball over as Jake.

Garrard isn't even an argument, he is a much better QB.

I think Romo is a decent QB, he'd probably be even better if he were not part of the circus that is the Dallas Cowboys.

Bulger, IMO, would probably regain some of his old form if he had our OL to protect him.

Hassellbeck is a better QB, IMO. The only questions I have about him are durability.

Plus Favre is a friggin' turnover prone bastard......yeah, okay. You guys talked me out of that one. Jake is now 23rd rated. F**k Brett Favre.

Miami Dolphins: Pennington/Henne vs. Jake -> Pennington....maybe. henne, no way.

Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards vs. Jake -> Jake

New England Patriots: Tom Brady vs. Jake -> Brady

New York Jets: Mark Sanchez vs. Jake -> Jake

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco vs. Jake -> Jake for the time being. last year may have been a fluke and even at that he wasn't more productive than jake.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Roethlisberger vs. Jake -> Roethlisberger

Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer vs. Jake -> Palmer

Cleveland Browns: Anderson/Quinn vs. Jake -> i'm not sure on this one. jake is the more proven of the three. anderson had one good year and one crap year that he got moved to the sidelines. flash in the pan. quinn has yet to show that he can handle the pressure. how long was he active and hold the starting job last year?

Tennessee Titans: Kerry Collins vs. Jake -> Jake absolutely.

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub vs. Jake -> tough call. schaub can't stay healthy. he hasn't been active more than 8 games in a season yet.

Indianapolis Colts: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning

Jacksonville Jaguars: David Garrard vs. Jake -> jury still out but jake is more proven. lean towards jake here.

Oakland Raiders: Jamarcus Russell vs. Jake -> Jake

Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton vs. Jake -> Jake

San Diego Chargers: Philip Rivers vs. Jake -> Rivers

Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Cassell vs. Jake -> Jake cassell is having a tough time beating out brodie croyle in camp and very well could be a very high priced flash in the pan who was the benefactor of a very good system.

New York Giants: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning

Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo vs. Jake -> Jake romo is a choke waiting to happen. not that jake is immune by any means. romo is just prone to them more.

Philadelphia Eagles: McNabb vs. Jake -> McNabb

Washington Redskins: Jason Campbell vs. Jake -> Jake

Detroit Lions: Matt Stafford vs. Jake -> Jake...for the time being.

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers vs. Jake -> Rodgers

Minnesota Vikings: Favre vs. Jake -> Jake...favre is an older jake and will only last 10 weeks max.

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler vs. Jake -> Cutler

New Orleans Saints: Brees vs. Jake -> Brees

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan vs. Jake -> Ryan

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leftwich/Freeman vs. Jake -> Jake

St. Louis Rams: Mark Bulger vs. Jake -> Jakebulger's falling apart at a faster rate than jake.

San Fransisco 49ers: Hill/Smith vs. Jake -> Jake

Seattle Seahawks: Hasselbeck vs. Jake -> flip a coin. hass may be at the end of his career because of back issues. we'll have to see this year.

Arizona Cardinals: Warner vs. Jake -> Warner

Ok, I'll play

Miami Dolphins: Pennington/Henne vs. Jake -> Jake has as much up-side as pennington, and can hit Smitty deep

Buffalo Bills: Trent Edwards vs. Jake -> Jake

New England Patriots: Tom Brady vs. Jake -> Brady (But still, F**K Tom Brady)

New York Jets: Mark Sanchez vs. Jake -> Jake - No contest

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco vs. Jake -> Flacco

Pittsburgh Steelers: Roethlisberger vs. Jake -> Roethlisberger (Really just a younger Delhomme)

Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer vs. Jake -> Palmer

Cleveland Browns: Anderson/Quinn vs. Jake -> Jake

Tennessee Titans: Kerry Collins vs. Jake -> Jake

Houston Texans: Matt Schaub vs. Jake -> Schaub -liked him since he was a backup in Atl

Indianapolis Colts: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning (ya think?)

Jacksonville Jaguars: David Garrard vs. Jake -> Garrard

Oakland Raiders: Jamarcus Russell vs. Jake -> Jake

Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton vs. Jake -> Jake

San Diego Chargers: Philip Rivers vs. Jake -> Rivers

Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Cassell vs. Jake -> Jake - Cassel is gonna crash and burn

New York Giants: Manning vs. Jake -> Manning

Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo vs. Jake -> Jake - Romo never puts the team first

Philadelphia Eagles: McNabb vs. Jake -> McNabb - but not by much

Washington Redskins: Jason Campbell vs. Jake -> Jake

Detroit Lions: Matt Stafford vs. Jake -> Jake

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers vs. Jake -> Rodgers

Minnesota Vikings: Favre vs. Jake -> Jake

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler vs. Jake -> Cutler - giving him the benefit of the doubt now

New Orleans Saints: Brees vs. Jake -> Brees - I heart Drew Brees

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan vs. Jake -> Ryan - kid's got poise

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Leftwich/Freeman vs. Jake -> Jake

St. Louis Rams: Mark Bulger vs. Jake -> Jake - Injury concerns, Carr-esque shell shock?

San Fransisco 49ers: Hill/Smith vs. Jake -> Jake

Seattle Seahawks: Hasselbeck vs. Jake -> Jake

Arizona Cardinals: Warner vs. Jake -> Warner

Looks like I got him at 15. Which seems high, but that's because I'm giving him the edge over players who are also getting up there in years. Kollins, Hasselback, Bulger, Pennington have nowhere to go but down, so why give up our proven starter for any of them?

Yeah but Jake is also not exactly young and perhaps is showing signs of the start of his decline(this season will tell, I suppose).

McNabb but not by much? Are you serious? I have to hear this argument, IMO, McNabb is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Jake.

Very interesting exercise, there are only two of these I really disagree with:

St. Louis Rams: Mark Bulger vs. Jake -> Bulger

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler vs. Jake -> Cutler

Bulger looked good when he took over because he had two HOF WR's and an all-pro HB. He was handed the keys to a Cadillac and just had to keep it on the road. Now that those guys are gone, and the running game isn't what it used to be - he's been exposed. Jake has had a HOF receiver as his disposal for the better part of his career as well as decent running game, but he also makes better use of some of the average talent around him. When Bulger throws for 300 yards and 3 TD's in a Superbowl, get back to me. I also don't think Bulger is the leader that Jake is, I don't see that same competitive fire in Bulger that causes guys to rally around him.

Cutler has a million dollar arm and a ten cent brain. With all his talent he has a losing record. He trusts his arm too much and makes terrible decisions that hurt his team. Jake can make terrible decisions too (ARIZONA), but Jake is a winner and can come through in a pinch - Cutler has never displayed that... I question both his brain and his heart. He's also bad for the locker room, what does he do after his first lackluster performance as a Bear? He throws Hester under the bus....

Yeah, I hate the Eagles - but I'd take McNabb over Jake any day of the week, sorry.

    • He has allowed 1 sack this season. His issue is penalties more than anything else. He is averaging 1 penalty per game. In general, we should have zero complaints about this OL unit. Especially considering we have been a bottom 16 unit for about 8 years now.

    • If he was a vet or had 3 years of full playing time in college, it would be different, I'd lean more on the side of caution.  But this is someone who now over the last 4 years, has really only played in games for one of them as he had 51 combined carries his first two years in college. If he wants to reach his potential, he needs reps and he needs them this year, he can't miss another year without meaningful game snaps. The knee is structurally sound at this point being a year out from injury and today's tech/rehab capabilities.  Sure his lack of game shape could lead to pulled muscles or something, but it's not going to put him at risk of a more serious injury to give him 10-15 carries right out of the gate. Also, we need see what he's got, to know if he's going to be able to handle a 3 down role next year before the offseason.  Because if he can, then we shouldn't be re-signing Hubbard as he's earned a decent contract from someone next year.   We can't give that out to a guy who will end up being a backup to someone on a rookie deal, it's a place we can save money to spend elsewhere for a few years, as we could get a much cheaper backup option in free agency or even draft someone else in like the 5th round to be his backup and really save money at the position.
