"[Cam] might be two years away from being finished."

Even see the Saints and the Falcons. Signed their QBs to $20mil. The saints have had one win season since, granted they were without their coach for one of those. The Falcons have been losing since giving Ryan $20mil

Shortly, there will come the time when Gettleman and JR will have to decide if Cam is worth a big contract,or if they want to retain him at all..

Since i don't have a crystal ball, there's no way of knowing how this will play out. For the sake of Cam, as well as the future of the Panthers franchise,i hope the right decision will be made.

Aaron Rodgers?

Peyton Manning?

Tom Brady?

Brady's last contract was only 70 million with 33 guaranteed.

Manning's was 96 million with 58 guaranteed (and this is Peyton Manning we're talking about).

Rodgers is the only legit 100 million dollar QB you listed, and he just got his last year.  They went 8-7-1 in the season that immediately followed but are doing better this year.

Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, Matt Ryan and Colin Kaepernick all have higher paying contracts than both Brady and Manning.  Would you put Newton on that list as well?

You might notice the team with the most consistent level of success in this conversation is the one whose quarterback is making the least.

Some would say Brady still is.

And honestly, it's not just QBs.  Lots of teams have dedicated too high a percentage to a single player or group of players.

(in our case, runningbacks)

Yea, Brady is getting PAID, but making less than his worth.  He wants to win, not strut around saying that he is the highest paid QB in the league.

Ben makes as much as Brady hence he was angling for a new contract at the start of this season. Manning is also essentially one of those $20mil QBs.

I think if you asked him during the last Super Bowl, he might have conceded some of that money could have been spent elsewhere.

The past several Super Bowls have been won by guys prior to their big extension.

Still waiting on one to win the big one after that 100 million dollar payday.

Brady is making between 14-15mil the next 2 or 3 years. Looking at that, I cant figure out for the life of me how any player in the league should make more than that, if you go by comparison. If people believe what they say around here, by giving Cam more weapons, how could we afford to pay him more and do both?

Great. All the old timers that say, "only an unathletic white guy can win as an NFL QB" are feeling all vindicated. It hasn't even been a year since one of them held up the Lombardi.

I'm sure Boomer E, Simms, and Bradshaw are all feverishly masturbating to that article.

how about keeping the race poo out if it.

This is probably what the FO is trying to figure out now.

Is Cam good enough to make EVERYONE around him better?  If he is, we can pay him like a top 5er.

Does Cam need more support around him to make him successful?  If so, we can't pay him like a top 5er if we need to add pieces.

It's going to be a very tough choice either way.

that is a great question and I dont know how anyone can honestly answer yes to it, by what we have seen and that's even in his best years.

going back to Brady, acknowledging he is a 13+ year vet, who can say his weapons right now are much better than ours? even his line isnt anything special but he knows how to operate in the pocket and take those two or three steps up, in or to the side that buys him more time until someone gets open. that game last week was a thing of beauty watching him and Rogers move around in the pocket, feeling or sensing the rush and still avoiding by only take two or three steps.

    • i think i go in the opposite direction of most. my ideal retirement is living in some old downtown area in a flat above some shop or something.  life out in the country was just something i got real tired of. My kids actually miss some of living out there, which i understand. that was where they grew up for the most part. 40 acres with a 2.5 acre pond. it was beautiful, but also way too much (and too expensive) for me to keep up with.
    • FLASHBACK: I remember back when ESPN was just starting--he was their anchor.  They used to show stuff like Rodeo and field hockey--I remember laughing when he went to a commercial mocking a cycling competition in Utah (or something similar--I made that up) and I laughed.  I told my dad, "We may have us a new anchor when we get back from commercial."  When they came back from commercial, Berman was looking very serious and he said, "Any comments by me do not reflect the views of ESPN....The men and women who cycle are dedicated athletes and we are honored to shine light on their sport." (Paraphrasing).  Dad laughed hysterically. My first memory of him--and that was like 1980.
    • Might not have a team without them. Although that probably applies to the Panthers, too.
