"[Cam] might be two years away from being finished."

I'm convinced that this entire year, this entire, epic, CHITSTORM of a year where everything that could go wrong has, was necessary to get the vital piece that is a LT. 19 out of 32 teams start a first rounder and most are gobbled up in the top half of the first round.

Our franchise is further proof of this fact the very year after losing our own top 10 pick LT stalwart after a decade. Ironically, in a weird way, him retiring this year has helped us suck so bad that we will ultimately be rewarded so that we can move forward.

WR (Smitty, Moose), DB (Davis, Minter), DT (Jenkins, Buckner, Short), TE (Walls), LB (Mills), C/G (Kalil, Wharton), as well as others such as Delhomme, Rucker, Hoover, Johnson, Hardy, et al...MOST of our best players, EVER, at positions other than LT, were not first round picks.

I don't know yet if his name is Peat, Scherff, Stanley, Collins, Ogbuehi, Drango, Flowers, or someone else, but being in a position to chose the man we want to play this vital position had to happen for this team to go forward (assuming a loss Sunday). Despite the mixed bag of top 10 OTs recently and the inevitable growing pains, he WILL (by default) be an upgrade!!!

And as a result, Cam WILL shove this chit down everyone's throat!!!

Eh.

It's like the peanut gallery now. Everyone's going to take a shot, whether they actually watch the Panthers play or not. So you gotta take a lot of these criticisms with a grain of salt.

Plus, Newton is at least one year away (lol) after what happened this year. Sure.

The real point is: The entire year was a Clusterfug. So how can you really single out Newton, knowing there was an entire collapse of the team, along with Rivera and Shula being idiots dragging him down (as you noted).

EXACTLY... when Cam was playing well earlier this year he was being compared to Rodgers and now he's 2 years away from being done. it's an amazing coincidence that Cam started to struggle when the injury bug hit our OL, we've fielded 7 different OL lineups for the past 7 games.

Do yourself a favor and learn to tune out these talking heads.

Still as good of a total resume and skill set for a 25 year old...ever.

Can anyone blame Cam for having PTSD with Byron Bell protecting his blind side?

Cam is extremely mentally and physically tough, most QB's would have either had a season ending injury or would have made a regular habit of sitting down or spiking the ball (see Eli Manning last year) with the kind of protection Cam has had this year.

I have it (PTSD) just thinking about it, nevermind actually having to live it.

I think what's actually 'finished' right now is this notion that athletic quarterbacks are going to change the NFL.

Quarterbacks still rise or fall based on their ability to pass.  Being a run threat is great if you're also a quality passer, but it's a poor substitute for good passing skills.  You might get some really cool highlight reel plays, but you don't get long term success.

RG3 is probably the best example of this.

I agree, Cam has hit his ceiling in my opinion, he is no longer a rushing threat so now he is being exposed as a very mediocre passer. I have no confidence whatsoever he's a franchise QB

He was actually a pretty good passer this season before the coaching staff decided to start him running again.

If he's gonna succeed, he'll need coaches that will concentrate on his passing skills and use the run as a supplemental threat.

If he were to remain under this coaching staff, the way they're using him, "finished in two years" is a legit possibility.

What people need to realize is that young QB's will struggle. It takes time and patience to develop a become a good QB in the NFL. I can guarantee you right now if Aaron Rodgers, Phillip Rivers didn't get the chance to sit behind someone and learn, develop, and fix his mechanics people would've been saying the same stuff about them. The QB position is a tedious position it takes time and a whole lot of effort and preparation. It doesn't surprise me one bit that these young QB's struggle.
