And the new James Bond movie will be called.......

I actually like Craig.

He is a little more gritty, a little faster to kill, rather than stun or knock out.  007 needed a bit of a change after the quippy Brosnon, and some bad movies before Royale.

I agree

I loved Goldeneye but the other Brosnon Bond movies were terrible, the one with Halle Berry was comical. I really like Craig as Bond. He doesn't have the most beautiful face but his body is great and there is just something he brings to the character that works. I think he is great.

btw am I the only one who thought the Timothy Dalton movies were awesome? I loved License to Kill and The living daylights.

For those who don't like Craig: I suspect this may be his last outing as Bond and a new actor will emerge.

Most peg Henry Cavill as the next Bond but I don't know if he will since he is lined up with all these Superman movies.

Despite that, he is too big of a name to take the role.

I could see Rupert Friend from Homeland taking over the role. He did audition for the role and supposedly it was between him, Craig, and Cavill. They went with Craig simply due to age.

You really have to consider these films in the period they were released in though.

In 1962 this is as bad ass as you could get.

Totally true, I was meaning more so the Roger Moore/Brosnan movies.  I actually like the darker tones Dalton's movies had in between Moore and Brosnan, but they were just made at the wrong time and had underwhelming supporting talent.  It's Connery or Craig for me, depending on which side of the bed I wake up on that day.

Would you say Fleming wanted only a difference between Bond and the villains is that Bond is sanctioned by a government?

That's what I always interpreted the 00 Section to be.  They are the MI6 agents who are not overly encumbered by a sense of morality and were willing and able to do the jobs that the rank and file would consider distasteful.

I think that's why I like Craig so much in the role.

Well that and I cant imagine any of the previous Bonds delivering that scene in Casino Royal where Le Chiffre is swatting him in the jewels with the knotted rope with the same level of intensity.

I am not a huge Daniel Craig fan, but you must be the first person to ever express this opinion. Pierce Brosnan is widely considered to be one of if not the worst Bond actors of all time along with Lazenby. Many regard Daniel Craig as one of the best, second only to Connery. Not saying this is my opinion, just stating what I have perceived to be the consensus. Personally, I have definitely preferred Craig over Brosnan.

yeah, I stopped watching Brosnan Bond movies, because of him and they were crappy movies. Craig brought some life back to the franchise expect for Quantum, that one was kind of boring but still better than anything Brosnan did,

btw Connery has been bald since he was 30....just sayin'.

Get rid of Daniel Craig. He'll be bald soon. Pierce Brosnan was a way better bond. Craig has no presence and should never have been a leading man.

And here we go. Gotta say I personally prefer Brosnan. When I imagine James Bond, he's it. But as was said earlier the films he was in were poor for the most part. That's not a knock on his ability just the scripts. I think he'd be great in a darker Bond film.

I read a really interesting article on Brosnan's take on his own James Bond and the films. Seemed to me he was envious of the direction the new ones are going. However as good of actor he is, he takes personal blame for his last few bond films. Saying he had his own insecurities about the role. Something about trying to play the charming smooth smartass bond image vs being a more direct/brutal type character that a real agent would be like.

That's OK.  I'll stick with a guy that fits the rugged and world weary look that Flemming envisioned.

Wait, people are saying Dalton is a good actor?  He's the British version of Jack Nicholson.  He plays the same character (namely a hyperbolic version of himself) in everything he's done from Remmington Steele to the Thomas Crowne Affair.

I think Craig is the best Bond, by far. I prefer him over Connery, even.

That's a quote you won't hear often.

If there was a actor closest to how Ian Fleming wanted Bond to be then Daniel Craig is it. Fleming wanted Bond to be dark and gritty and almost like a villain.

Real world spies aren't necessarily the most kindhearted people.

Just out of curiosity, how many on here have heard of Sidney Reilly?

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
