Why would Cam stay in Carolina?

Cam is a work in progress and so are the Panthers.

Both parties may ultimately determine it is in their best interests to remain together, but it would be naïve to believe they are not considering all their options.

As far as anything said in public by either party, those are just meaningless words, until there is a signed contract.

that's not true.

plus, you think a NFL team is going be successful paying a franchise tag for seasons for a QUARTERBACK that wants out? I mean I don't know Cam....but if Cam wanted to flex his muscle he has more than people acknowledge. Can pay tag money to a guy wanting out.

Yes, it is true.

2015- 5th year option

2016- tagged

2017- tagged v2

2018- free agent

Carolina controls Cam until the summer of 2018. Cam will sign an extension, even if he doesn't want to. He's not gonna play on 1 year deals until he is 29 years old.

Would we really want to pay him $22 million for a tag though?  I highly doubt DG would do that.

So basically none in like the past 15 years?

Football has changed a lot since the guys you mentioned played.

Teams never let franchise qbs walk. Carolina has been more than vocal about cam being that for us. He'll get his extension in the offseason than insanely annoying and naive threads like this can stop

Cam is the first example from the new rookie wage era....that will be given a chance to shake things up. So really, he doesn't comapre to the old way.

His contract was shorter and cheaper than prior examples.....totally different ballgame

I highly doubt DG lets Cam play next year without a long-term deal either.

If Ron stays....I don't see how they extend Cam to a big deal.

That means Ron would likely be a lameduck HC. Extending a unique QB to HUGE money doesnt seem that wise as you then go to find a new coaching staff. Limits things. Not every HC wants a Cam.....not everyone wants a traditinal Q.

When Cam gets an extension this offseason, and you slit your wrists, please host it with a live feed. Thanks in advance.

Don't you need to know who your HC and staff is before paying a QB absurd sums of money locking your team into a certain direction?

I think there are a lot of moving parts in play
