Why would Cam stay in Carolina?

The only way I see Cam staying is if Richardson and Gettleman sit down with Cam and tell him personally what they have planned because I can't imagine Cam sticking around for another four years of this garbage.

this is EXACTLY what I told my son that had better be happening right now. If they let Cam twist in the wind and not spell out to him just how they plan on fixing this disaster and how he's their guy, he will leave.

It will all depend on the offseason. Does DG fix the oline and make it better than what it is now? (shouldn't be too hard) If the line doesn't get better, I can see Cam leaving. And TBH I wouldn't blame him.

Yep.  We should have a clear opportunity to upgrade the OL this year with minimal excuses.  I think it's completely reasonable and the right time for Cam to tell the FO he needs more and better help around him.

Yep...more more year to turn it around or he's gone.  Fix the O-Line, new head coach, on the short list.

Ray Lewis said it best. Cam is mature enough now on the business side of football to tell that F/O to get you some damn weapons. Tell them to get you some damn protection and playmakers on offense. Go offensive draft heavy and start getting some legitimate help. If not, then he will probably leave.

Here's something fun I dug up.  Excluding Cam, the Panthers have drafted 10 offensive players since 2011.  Only 3 are still on the roster, two of which were drafted in 2014.  Bold indicates they are still on the roster.

2011:

Round 5 pick 1: WR Kealoha Pilares

Round 6 pick 38: C Zachary Williams

Round 7 pick 41: T Lee Ziemba

2012:

Round 2 Pick 8: G Amini Silatolu

Round 4 Pick 9: WR Joe Adams

2013:

Round 4 Pick 11: G Edmund Kugbila

Round 6 Pick 14: RB Kenjon Barner

2014:

Round 1 Pick 28: WR Kelvin Benjamin

Round 3 Pick 28: G Trai Turner

(edit) Round 6 Pick 28: RB Tyler Gaffney

If I'm Cam I'm looking at that and saying, if you don't go offense heavy in this next draft or at least sign some talented FA's to help me, I'm out.

There are too many broken parts on the offensive side of the ball than can be fixed in the year remaining on Cam's contract. Think about it, replace or fix 3 out of the 5 O-linemen. Fix the running game. Fix the WR corps. The best part of the offense is the TE position- everything else is broken.

And without addressing the defensive issues, I don't see the offense being fixed in a single off-season and I definitely don't see the value in franchise tagging a QB when he doesn't want to stay.

As I've stated several times over the past few months, Cam would be stupid not to at least listen to offers from elsewhere.

A few reasons off the top of my head:

Because he is close to family.

Because he already has many ties to the community.

Because the Panthers have the ability to keep him for several more years, even without a long term deal.

Because he has won here.

Because of other building blocks on the team.

Because Carolina will be out of cap hell soon.

so basically.....there really isn't a good reason for him to stay.  B/c just about all that can be found elsewhere too.  Plus family isn't that big of deal.  You have all offseason for family and can travel them or you to see them in season during the stretches you want to see them.  He could win anywhere, with other building blocks, on teams that aren't in cap hell......and all comminutes embrace athletes like Cam.

The list on why he shouldn't stay IMO is more legit than why to stay.

If Cam's agent is any good....Cam doesn't touch an extension given the current state of this franchise.  They should play the wait and see game.....b/c many careers are made and broken not b/c of individual talent but the organization they belong to.  Carolina is hurting Cam's chances for success not aiding it to date.

they have airports in  most major cities so close to family is not a big deal if he can sign a really big deal.

he  can create community ties anywhere, this is a business first, G-man has taught us that.

That panthers ability to keep him hinges on Cam wanting to be here so that is not a real thing.

He has won here and I am sure confident he could win somewhere else.

Not a lot of building blocks to speak of, I think it is the lack of blocks that would compel him to leave.

We will not be out of cap hell if we break the bank for him and with all the things going on I would suspect that's what it would take our very on little catch-22. We have to pay Luke also.

The logical thing to do is contact some of these teams and beat him to the punch and get something for him. Players and/or multiple picks or both.

Lol...

There have been nearly 30 QBs drafted #1 overall the the NFL/AFL. After 3 seasons Cam's 25 wins ranked 2nd behind only Peyton's 26 wins. Cam has won more games through his first 4 seasons than almost any of them did. Carolina isn't as terribly ran as some of y'all think. It takes time.

This place should be renamed Chicken Little Headquarters.
