Any Big Green Egg users out there?

Dude, use lump charcoal and a chimney. Never use Matchlight for smoking (or anything else).

I use a chimney for my match light because it will still have to burn down the chemicals.

Not really something I will have to worry about going forward seeing how I got a green egg, but valid point.

Matchlight burns the fastest of any charcoal, its crap really...then come natural briquettes, and the longest lasting is the lump charcoal.

Really....do tell!

Its pretty simple to do - I clear a lot of brush and trees around my place every year - a lot of the smaller oaks that are too small for firewood I cut into 3-4 inch long pieces and pack in a 55 gallon drum- I have a couple vents cut in the drum bottom and I put the steel drum top in place with the band and just leave the  bunghole open.  I support the drum on cinder blocks and pile the dry brush and branches around it - and light it up - I keep the fire going from 3-4 hours - once the contents of the drum gets up to temp you get a blowtorch effect from the bung hole as the volatile gasses that support combustion come off the wood, exit the drum, and ignite.  Once the torch effect goes out I usually keep burning for an hour or so then let the fire die down. Its a bit of a balancing act- if you cook too long you turn a lot of your charcoal into ash and if you dont cook long enough you have only partial charcoal which burns with too much flame in the grill.  Next day its usually cool enough to open the drum and pull out your charcoal - I get about 1/4 to 1/3 barrel of charcoal from a drum that is packed with oak chunks before cooking it.

If there is a way to post a pic directly from my puter I have a couple of pictures although I cant find the blowtorch one right now.
