With all the talk about the next coach who is Gettleman's "guy?"

I'd step back before getting too much of a tunnel vision on the guys we think DG would go for because of his previous job stints.  That can give some type of indication but not always be the dealio.

No, but its a factor.

I'd be less convinced if, for example, Kubiak wasn't doing so hot at his current job.  But he's drawing raves, so...

i think a candidate that both JR and Gettleman will like is age 52 Perry Fewell, who was one of the candidates we interviewed when we hired Ron Rivera.

He's been DC of the Giants for the last 5 seasons, DC of Bills for the four seasons before that. Was secondary coach for Tom Coughlin during Coughlin' last 5 years as HC of Jacksonville, was secondary coach for Lovie Smith’s 2005 Bears under DC Ron Rivera (11-5/playoffs) and was secondary coach for the 2003-04 Rams under DC Lovie Smith in '03 (went to playoffs both years)

Born in North Carolina, high school in NC, college in NC, began his coaching career at UNC. Married with two boys.

Kinda doubt it based on recent performance.  Coughlin publicly questioned him recently (though not directly).

Word is that Fewell will probably be fired at the end of this season even if Coughlin stays.

I could see him getting an interview (maybe) but not the job.

had his shot already.  I really don't care where our next coach was when he was 4 years old.

agreed.  History is hard work and often underappreciated.  And yes, Fox and Hurney were assistants way back in San Diego (where Hurney was in the front office all the time, not on the road).  But in general, I don't know if it's ever going to be necessary to add longtime Bills defensive quality control coach Chuck Lester to the short list.  And luckily, most all of the Giants assistants aren't worth promoting.

Now, would Perry Fewell show up as DBs coach or, maybe less excitingly, DC next year?  That could happen since the Giants are crappy and they'll all get fired (also helps, say, Clements with McAdoo, since he won't be taking any Packers coaches if he goes somewhere). A shame they don't have Mike Pope anymore (Cowboys).   I wonder if the team would be interested in Brian Baker still, since a few guys in the front office back when had really liked him, too.

Given the situation in Redskin land, I'd say the chances of Baker becoming available are pretty good (I liked him too and hated when we lost him).

Raheem Morris and former Panthers DL Coach Jacob Burney pop free in that scenario too, plus you have Jay Gruden as a possible OC or QB Coach..

Gruden as an assistant isn't tremendously rotten.

Gus Bradley would be interesting as DC.

I doubt Bradley is let go this year, honestly. They know that's a building process.

Gruden, I seriously doubt, would leave ESPN to be a "consultant".

Edit: Nvm, you meant Jay.

Kyle Shanahan= just what we need, ANOTHER guy with ZERO head coaching exp. You would think people here would have learned from the Rivera experiment.

Unlike Rivera, Kyle has been on the sideline with his dad for thirty years. He knows how to be a head coach.

Pretty sure that if someone is coaching the Panthers next year not named Rivera that he won't be a defensive minded coach.
