Charlotte/NC Honda dealer experiences?

Recommended Posts

If you're willing to drive Winston Salem, Flow Honda is really good. My family has bought several vehicles from them.

I've purchased 5 Hondas from Honda Cars of Rock Hill and one from McKenney Salinas in Gastonia. Between the two, I prefer Rock Hill. They will match the TrueCar values and often will throw in some extras like all weather mats and oil changes.

I'll keep these in mind when I get ready to purchase.  Thanks!

They've all blown in my experience

They expect the cars to sell themselves

They refuse to negotiate

They drove us away from honda and straight to mazda for the wife's mom-mobile.

Just want your opinion on this.

Why did you feel that you had/have to negotiate?

If you are getting a good product, at a good price, why try to do that?

Based on dealer invoice and MSRP, they didn't offer a good price.  Through 2 car buying experiences, the honda dealer did not budge a nickel.

If that's the case, I get it, but I have rarely seen that in my car buying days, the over MSRP thing.

It's just funny to me how folks that never negotiate a thing always try to negotiate when it comes to homes and cars.  And I do it as well, but if I don't get something off, and I want the car/house, I buy it anyway.

I think it's just one of those things that's ingrained into the American culture.  You have so many hidden incentives the consumer doesn't see and the shady practices of some car salesmen through the '80s, '90s and even some still today, you want to make sure you're not getting fleeced.  If you ever get the chance, confessions of a car salesman on Edmunds is a really good read...

I think with the advent of truecar, edmunds and now KBB having fair purchase prices clearly posted, you'll see a lot less haggling and dealers moving toward a market-based, volume sales system because a lot of manufacturer to dealer incentives are based on volume.  So we've seen a shift in the market moving from profit per vehicle to volume-based pricing and sales.  I think people would be much happier knowing that person A paid the same for the same car as person B and so on.

I have no issue with the dealer making a profit; it's a business and they have employees and bills to pay.  I sure as hell wouldn't work "at cost" at my job.  My opinion is sell the car at dealer invoice minus any incentives the customer qualifies for and call it day.  Everybody pays roughly the same, dealer gets the hold back and any other manufacturer to dealer incentives, less negotiating, less hassle, car sales move faster.

Because most things aren't negotiable. There are 4 things to ALWAYS negotiate. I say...why pay more than you have to?

Cars

Homes

Jewelry

Loans/interest/insurance

Anyone who pays sticker price for any of those things is throwing thousands down the toilet. Also, there is always some sort of leverage such as your credit, or buying a car with all cash, why should you pay more than a guy who is most likely going to default? You should pay less.

Sometimes I'll haggle with other stuff too like Time Warner. They told me how much my internet package would be and I counter offered and told them how much I'd pay and they accepted.

Every Christmas and Valentine's day I walk into jewelry stores and offer an amount for the item I want and get it. Simple as that.

I haggled with my car insurance, and used other quotes as leverage. I didn't want the same deal other companies offered, I wanted a better one, and that's what I got....for the same price.

I also haggled with Verizon and got $10 off a month for the same bill I've had for almost 15 years, but again, that 15 years is what I used as leverage.

The way I see it, a company is stupid to lose a 15 year old customer with immaculate credit who pays on time every month because they want a break in costs. And it's stupid for a car dealership who is getting 15k in cash to know off a few grand for the ease and simplicity of the transaction. Most of these places take way too much profit to cover the idiot buyers who screw them by not paying on time or defaulting or abusing insurance etc etc. I'd rather not pay for that our of my pocket so I see no harm in it. I also always 'tip' the salesperson even on small buys for saving me money (and who I'd rather get the money) and everyone walks away happy.

It's amazing the amount of money you can save simply by understanding your leverage, the competitor, market value and in the end offering a fair price. That goes for almost anything you buy.

I'm looking at buying an Accord hybrid in early-mid 2015 and was wondering if some of you folks had experiences shopping at Charlotte-area Honda dealers you would be willing to share.  I've shopped Honda of Concord and Scott Clark Honda before (didn't purchase though), and SC seems like they're willing to give a better deal over Honda of Concord (plus HoC adds $1200-$1500 worth(less) of extras.)

I'm willing also willing to hear what others have to say about dealers outside of the Charlotte area.  I've heard some good things about Leith Honda in Raleigh but never traveled out that way.

Check out trucar.com  looks like anywhere from 29.5k to 35k depending on how you load it up.  Looks like you will be paying close to msrp.

This sounds reasonable.

Do not buy any other crap a dealer might put on such as alarms, paint/fabric protector etc. Nothing!

Only look at a good price on a Honda care extended warranty.

This sums it up perfectly. I've bought 2 pilots from Rock Hill and Hendricks S Blvd respectively. If you walk in and know what you want and have a target price that is in line with KBB-/edmunds they tend to be accommodating and don't try to jerk you around.
