Jason Williams waived too?

I think this is the 3rd time Williams has been cut by the Panthers. won a game last season with a blocked punt of his own, but apparently a mistake in that department weighs more than a success. Williams was a pretty good ST player but let's not pretend he's Steve Tasker or anything. it could be a sign of desperation or serious fault lines in the team (as if that would be a surprise at this point), or it could be as grimesgoat mentioned, a changing of the guard to look at younger guys and reward hard work by practice squadders.

Says alot about DG for him to keep sitting back and approve these cuts.

Also makes you think that Ron isn't going anywhere this offseason since he continue to gets this sort of freedom. We could've used Williams next season.

This is actually when coaches are fired the most. Gettleman is probably giving him the okay, along the lines of, "Cason and Avant were guys I brought in. Let's see what you can do these last few games with your talent". So, he let Rivera keep Rodgers, cut Cason, cut Williams, etc. All the while, he gets ready to fire Rivera. It's a constant trend with coaches at the tail end of their job.

It's also a win-win for Gettleman. He gets to see what guys like Horace whatever-his-name-is and Byndom can do for next season, and also not have to worry about the backlash of letting Cason go (although, there probably wouldn't be any backflash from knowledgeable fans).

Hope you're right! I can't do another season of Ron Rivera coached football

Why in the world is WR Stephen Hill not being brought up and given a chance to show once and for all whether he's worth keeping or let go?

I think it was half way through the 2nd Q on Sunday when I flipped over my "Dear Santa Send Cam Help" sign and wrote Free Stephen Hill
