Al Wallace said Cam Newton will never be a franchise qb

I want to know why some of you are fine with the gamble paying Cam top dollar? There is ZERO proof this organization can give him enough to help to balance out his shortcomings. So what happens when we pay him (and Luke ... who definitely deserves it) and things stay the same? You'll just continue to be sour pusses ragging the coaches for years. Won't you get tired of that? You're "But if Cam had this" and "If Cam had that" crap will get real old real fast. There isn't one QB in this league who does it by himself. You go off what they give you. Not what they might give you ... if. Cam has given us very good play so far as a Panther. That is not worth top dollar. Some of you would ruin this team as a GM. Be smart with Cam. Pay him a nice check but not top dollar. Then you build around him if you can. Sadly I doubt the Panthers can though. It's as if some of you think this whole business is magic. "Pay the man! Draft an O-line! Sign O-line FAs! Pay Luke top dollar! Bring in better WRs! Pay Olsen! We will make it to the Superbowl in two years tops!"

It doesn't work that way. 65% of Cam's bad play isn't on Cam. But ... you do the math. And you don't HOPE and GUESS for the future. You know what happens when you do? You overpay Charles Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, Jake Delhomme, Jonathan Stewart, and Greg Hardy and your team wallows in SUCK.

If you truly want to build this team ... you must be very careful with Cam. But as I've said before, you guys are so dazzled and in love with our first EVER stud QB that you can't think straight. And I'm looking right at you, guys with Cam in your avatar.

thank you! Perfectly said.

How about a 11 min one from his rookie year

Doesn't change the FACT that YOU said he couldn't do something and I showed a Video of him doing that exact thing a few times..

Good QBs do it on a consistent basis. I thought that was made clear. Now I'm not sure if you're trolling or not. God this place has gone downhill.

plain and simple

Some of us understand football better then others..

We seen 3 years of a guy putting up the best numbers ever by any QB... With avg. talent around him..

We can see the effect he has had on this team on and off the field...

Most Important

We have seen how the 16 years before goes when you don't have a franchise QB..

No you need reading comprehension 101 or something..... Are you following the conversation you've been a part of for the last hour or so????

You and 1 of your buddies were giving each other pats on the back and talking about how much of a real Fan you are a few pages ago...

I just pointed out you have no history here of having a Cam opinion until this year......Which I was right....

Not my fault you have a lot of troll like qualities...LOL

The real question is have you been following the conversation. This all started because I said Cam still has trouble with his decision making and still has issues with his QB traits. Then you want to turn the conversation into a "real" fan thing because of my join date and now you don't even know what the hell you're talking about now.

Put all those "Good QB's" 1st 4 years numbers against Cam's then come and talk to me..

While you're doing that find me a "Good QB" who was consistent in the situation Cam was put in this year??

And i ask you to show what your opinion was last year.... Which you couldn't

Also again if you were actually following the conversation you and your buddy brought up the real fan thing a few pages ago..

Lets not kid ourselves. Cam has regressed since that Bengals game for whatever reason. This is not the time to sign him to a contract unless we are giving him a Kaepnick-like deal. Let him play on the 5th year option and then see how he does.

QBs can go bad quickly; see RG3 (rookie of the year like Cam) and it's possible his injuries may have contributed to it.

ummm....look at the talent around him. i don't understand what you don't understand, no quarterback can survive behind an awful offensive line. his offensive line has been like musical chairs with new players at new spots each week. lets just take a look at the starting offensive line out of training camp:

LT: Byron Bell-An undrafted free agent out of New Mexico. Not a power 5 conference school, but New Mexico. He was switched over to left tackle after being below average at right tackle.

LG: Amini Silatolu-2nd round pick out of a division 2 school

C: Ryan Kalil-A good player

RG: Trai Turner-3rd round rookie who I believe was the youngest player in the league. he may have potential but that is a lot to ask out of such a young man.

RT: Nate Chandler-an undrafted free agent Tight End out of UCLA. Not only was he a tight end but he switched over to defensive tackle before finally converting into an offensive lineman.

Some notable backups that have also "protected" Cam this year:

David Foucault-Guy played for a team located in Montreal last year

Andrew Norwell-Another undrafted free agent rookie

Fernando Velasco-Undrafted player who was cut by another team

Chris Scott-5th round pick journeyman

That is an embarrassing group of players. If you paid attention and watched games, which I highly doubt you do since you somehow believe Cam is the root of our issues, they usually show a stat of the most hit QB over the past couple of seasons. Cam Newton is by far and away the number 1 player on that list. This team does not give him a chance. They started the season with Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen, Jerricho Cotchery, and Jason Avant as his "weapons". That is the slowest group of weapons in the league. Not to mention they pretty much stripped him of his entire 12-4 offense last year and he missed most of training camp recovering from injuries, so he never had a chance to gel with the new offense.

You want to say we have been sucking ever since Cam got here, well then your clueless. You throw out records at me of 6-10, 7-9, and 12-4. The only thing I see there is improvements 3 years in a row. This isn't the same situation as the colts and andrew luck. The colts were in the playoffs every year before the year Manning got hurt. The Colts tanked that season for the number 1 pick and brought Luck into a pretty decent situation. The Panthers had not been to the playoffs since 2008 and were coming off a year where they were by far the worst team in football and Jerry gutted the roster for the lockout.

I could understand a fan base like the Packers or Steelers bitching about Cam because they have a rich tradition of quarterbacks. But Panthers fans complaining about Cam is comical. If you think Cam is the issue then your not paying attention or don't know what you are talking about, it is that simple. The only fan base in the world where they finally find their franchise quarterback and want to go back to the Kerry Collins, Frank Reich, Steve Beureline, Chris Weinke, Randy Fasani, Matt Lytle, Rodney Peete, Jake Delhomme, Vinny Testaverde, Matt Moore, David Carr, Jimmy Clausen, Brian St. Pierre days.

Forgot my man, D. Craig!

All I got to say is look at Cam the first 3 years when he carried this team on his shoulders and the numbers he was able to put up. Then look at his supporting cast this year. It's no coincidence his play goes down when he's had the worst cast around him of his career. So yes. Pay the man.

I think it's a myth that Cam carried this team. We did not have a winning season until we had a very good defense. Luck is one who carried his team without a good defense.

The team has regressed as a whole... Why is Cam the only person who shouldn't get paid??? At least he has 3 years of success before this one...

And how do people not notice the pattern

Panther's voted by every football publication to have had the worst Off-season + Cam injured all of the off- season = Cam having a down year...

That should be simple math to see..

And please don't compare Cam to RG3 who at least has been giving talent around him and failed...

We haven't done that yet for Cam by the way...
